    what to upgrade for £50?

If you need speakers then i would go for them - your board should support 5.1. Other option could be a second hard drive to get raid setup going. Cooler - that Akasa should be fine - i don't really see any point going for the H50 for the sake of it.

    New Build Advice

The advantage of the overclocked package is that it comes with Warranty. If you are decided on the CPU and MOBO then I won't try and dissuade you; but if you do buy these high-end components it would be a shame not to overclock them. I read review about the stock cooler not being too bad, at...

    New Build Advice

I honestly could not justify paying £300 for the Rampage III when the P6X58D-E is only £150, especially if you are not intending to overclock. With a few useful pointers and walkthroughs I have got my little i7/920 running completely stable at 4.0GHz. You have not included a cooler in the...

Using PC through TV in next Room

Some more testing with the able assitance of my wife has proven that the mouse will work the PC from the Sofa at far end of room (if a little flaky). This will be good enough to handle the slideshows but will look at Bluetooth option if I can persuade wife to stop watching tv and let me try some...

Using PC through TV in next Room

OK - I want to be able to use my new build through TV in next room. TV and PC are separated by plasterboard wall so I was intending drilling a discreet hole through the wall and just plugging PC straight into spare HDMI slot on TV. I have bought 2m QED HDMI to Mini-HMDI cable to connect from...

    TITAN ONYX INTEL CORE I7 920 D0 2.66GHZ @ 4.00GHZ DDR3 SYSTEM PRICE DROP

Sorry broad band has been down for 2 days. My CPU-Z shoes 3.9885 Ghz at the moment not running Prime95. Wonder why that is not dropping back ?? I agree with them though - if your friend runs Prime95 and hits 4.0 GHZ or therabouts then it sounds like it is ok. If not then they need ot go into...

    TITAN ONYX INTEL CORE I7 920 D0 2.66GHZ @ 4.00GHZ DDR3 SYSTEM PRICE DROP

No this is supposed to be used to help overclocking - think it is a version of the PALM handheld device (hence the name of the mobo). I was going to buy the same board but wanted USB 3.0 and Sata3 so went for P6X58D-E instead. Actually I nearly bought the same PC but wanted to change too many...

    TITAN ONYX INTEL CORE I7 920 D0 2.66GHZ @ 4.00GHZ DDR3 SYSTEM PRICE DROP

System information will show that the processor is i7/920 @2.67GHz. That is what the CPU is rated at - bnot necessarily what it is running at (or capable of running at). Recommend installing CPU-Z, RealTemp and Prime95. Running the apps should then show that the CPU is actually running approx...

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

I will persevere with the reboot, as long as i don't have to keep ripping off the side panel to get to the Memok button then it is not too bad. BSOD occurred when running Prime95 - message relates to Kernel Power. qpi/dram is at 1.30v so i guess i can play around with that. I am just trying...

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

I have been leaving it for a few minutes but still no action. Maybe i will just walk away for 10 minutes and let it do its thing. Got my first BSOD last night. This is under BIOS 0303 using all the same settings as under 0108 except the DRAM voltage change from 1.66v down to 1.65v. Need to...

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

For all of you wanting screenies - I am just following the instructions in the above thread. When I have stabilised at 4.0GHZ i will either try to go for 4.2GHZ or start winding back the voltages to see if I can get it stable at lower temps.

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

BIOS now flashed to version 0303. Reset my settings for 4GHZ overclock. DRAM Bus will not accept 1.66v now but will now except 1.65v (it still shows it in red and gives a big warning - which I am ignoring) * Note it would not allow me to load my OCProfile as it said settings did not match...

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

Ran Prime95 for 2 hours max temp was 75c. Just found a new BIOS version so think i am going to flash the BIOS and take it back up to 4Ghz. Will send some screenshots of my settings when i get chance - unless anyone knows how to extract the BIOS settings into text file.

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

Yeah correction on the RAM voltage it is at 1.66v - and BIOS version is 0108. Just pushed it up to 4.0Ghz staying with CPU at 1.25v and it is running at around 71c - Prime95 has only been running for 30 minutes so far though. I am still getting odd results when i shutdown from Windows - PC...

    Overclocking I7 920 on Asus P6X58D-E

Yes Hyperthreading is on. PC hybernated last night so I did not get full Prime run in. I have now disabled Power-saving. Have noticed issues trying to wake it up from hybernation but I will monitor that and post in another thread - basically it seems to need a hard boot and then the memok...
