SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

Because this is an active sim city thread got a slight derailment.

On sim city 4, how do you lot get yourself running? I always go in massive debt really fast and can't get out of it. Any tips?

The biggest problem most players have with SC4 is that they want everything too fast.

- You don't need things like Police or Fire Stations for a long time (only get the latter if there is a fire), and you should definitely ignore it when your advisors tell you to build large schools / hospitals / colleges. You should be playing with the bare minimum for a long time (water, power, a small clinic and a small school).

- Raise taxes to around 10% for whatever zoning you've got. I find you can even take it to 11 on easy without much complaint.

- Use the region rather than individual cities. It's good to start by building a small farming town that has low density residential, commercial and agriculture, and NO industry; power it with wind turbines. Put all your dirty industry in a seperate city. To avoid demand popping up raise the taxes for the zoning you don't want in any particular city to 20. Build residential in a seperate city and connect it to the industrial, and as you go back and forth the demand for jobs will raise in tandem with the demand for more housing. As your population grows you can spread to more regions and will be able to start building the things you want to.

- Your balance doesn't matter that much as long as your income is positive. If it isn't, you need to do something fast. Raise taxes, lower your budget for roads / utilities etc.

- Don't be afraid to take out a loan if you've got a plan on how to turn your money around.

- Remember that not everything can be perfect. You can't instantly have the super rich leading super happy lives and demanding a city full of skyscrapers in which to work. You have to work slowly, and at the start you're going to have a lot of those annoying orange messages from your advisors. They are necessary - you aren't getting them because you're bad at the game.

- Don't play on hard.

Four staff members from Maxis answered questions about SimCity and the engine.

Kip Katsarelis = Lead Producer
Ocean Quigley = Creative Director
Dan Moskowitz = Senior Software Engineer
Andrew Willmott = Chief Architect

These people were involved in answering the questions.

All the questions, and answers into a convenient google document can be viewed here,

I will miss the Graphs and charts :(:(.

Surprised Sc2k and 3k have so many fans still, I'm hoping it won't be dumbed down to much to 2k&3k levels.
At least it won't be a societies fiasco.

Some nice videos about the game over on Gizmodo if anyone is interested. They kinda gave me hope that the game is moving in the right direction.

The new SimCity, due for 2013 on PC and Mac, is powered by a new proprietary engine called GlassBox. It is described as "a new data-driven simulation engine" that is Maxis' "bet for the future." At a panel during Game Developers Conference, the studio detailed how GlassBox will power the upcoming SimCity "reboot" and promised that the modding community will be able to get their hands on their powerful new tools.

"We're huge fans of our modding community," creative director Ocean Quigley told the audience. "We've designed all this stuff to be moddable."

"We know modding is hugely important to our community," Quigley noted. "We know the reason why people are still playing SimCity 4 ten years later is because the modding community has kept it alive. GlassBox is built to be moddable, but beyond that we haven't announced anything"

While coming short of announcing full mod support for SimCity, Maxis did add that "we're using the same package format The Sims and SimCity 4 used," showing Maxis' desire to make it easy for Sim fans to transition to GlassBox tools.
