MSI's pricing for R9 290/290X - OUCH

This...they're playing it very close to the chest as it's going to compete with 780 pricing and they don't want Nvidia to undercut them. If it wasn't for that they'd of announced it yonks ago...

Very quick to jump down the green teams throat on here but AMD are just as crafty, they're looking to get as much for these cards as they can :D (and why not).

That what I said earlier MJ. Nvidia have the money of a big corporation but also have the hatred that the mega companies get along with it. AMD are no better and just because we have had a couple of good years from them seem to think that is how they can act now. A lot of peeps love them because of price/performance and once that price bit is dropped they lose a significant edge as far as I am concerned. Me personally, should this pricing be true, would see more point in buying Nvidia as until mantle is proven to be anything at least I get physx. We will see though....

To be honest that's the sort of price range I was expecting, which is exactly why I purchased a 7970 Matrix Platinum for less than half the price :D

R280X starts at £240 for custom cooled versions. It isn't realisitic for AMD to price R9 290 at ~£500 with R9 290X at £600+. Such a massive jump between tiers in pricing leaves a gap in the AMD line-up that will be easy for Nvidia to exploit.

GTX780 reference has a much better reference fan that is far more attractive to consumers. So R9 290 cannot cost the same as a GTX780 if it has similar performance. The Nvidia brand premium (in name only) cannot be ignored.

Realistic pricing for reference R9 290 cards avoiding massive price gaps between R9 280X and R9 290.
R9 290: ~£350 - £380
R9 290X:~£430 - £450.

Of course I wouldn't be surprised if AMD are anything but realistic. Titan is priced at £800+, so maybe AMD think ours is as fast as theirs so why not charge £700... it's £100 cheaper right. :rolleyes:

If we add vat to these:

£547.46 => £656.95
£437.80 => £525.36

So I reckon the prices over here will be £699 and £549 respectively :)

Well I certainly wont be buying if their anywhere close to these prices

+1

You Sir, are smoking blue meth

I agree with Raven on pricing. £600-650 on 290X

Very naive to think AMD will price themselves out of the market. Nobody is going to go for a 290x at £600+ unless it's considerably better than 780.

Still sticking to my £450-500 estimate I made a while back.

Back when i predicted i didn't realise there was going to be two new cards. As a result of that im expecting the 290 (780 rival) to be slightly cheaper but offer similar performance. (5%+Faster or Slower)

Same for 290X vs Titan

290= £400-£500 - Covering reference models and higher end models.
290X=£500-£600 - Covering reference models and higher end models.

The problem then becomes the massive market gap AMD leave between R9 280X and R9 290.
