Not a bad chip at all !!!

2.7ghz on 1.425v using my Arctic Cooler Pro. Temps are just super...28 Idle and 36 LOAD (full load, 2 instances of PRIME, one on each core)

I have a 2gb kit of OCZ Platiunum and I max out at DDR500 with it at 2.5-3-3-7. I find it only really likes a 166 divider, so I am limited to the FSB being set at 300.

I am convinced that this chip is good for 2.8 - 2.9ghz @ around 1.5v

I'll buy an PC4000 2gb kit today, and then run further tests over the weekend.

FX60 and more performance for less than 40% of the FX60 price...get them while you can.

Nice clock there chap.. what mboard & PSU is that...

Would you say the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS) would offer better clocks?

Thx

There's that one and G.Skill 1GB DDR LE PC4400 (2x512MB) Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE) (MY-005-GS) which is faster but is only 1Gb...

You didnt say which mboard you where using?

ManC

Sorry mate

I'm using DFI SLI-D nf4 mobo and a Hiper-x 550w PSU. I recommend the Hiper, second best PSU I've used.

The DFI mobo was dead handy when I used BH5 RAM as it could push 4v through the DIMMS.

Done a little bit more playing this morning and I'm now looking stable at 2750mhz ! :)

What vcore are you now using to get 2.75Ghz and is it prime stable?

I could reach 2.6ghz on default volts (1.35v)

2.7ghz @ 1.45v and I ran PRIME (one instance on each core) for 4 hours last night before I got bored !!!

Vcore currently on 2.75ghz is 1.475v, although I may goto 1.5v as PRIME just failed. Temps are 28 IDLE and 38 LOAD. I am sooooo impressed with the temps. I reckon, when I get some different RAM, I might chuck 1.6v through it and see if 2.8-2.9ghz is do-able.

LDT is set to 1.3v, and the chipset is set to 1.6v. Anything over 2.6ghz will not boot unless these voltages are used on the DFI (I get PFN_LIST BSOD if theyre not used)

I'm not overly concerned if PRIME Fails. I have had 5 Optys now (144's and 146's) and all failed prime at 2.9-3.0 ghz, but were completely stable for HL2, Age of Empires 3, FEAR and DOOM3.

Benktlottie

You are getting better temps than me and i'm on water cooling. Managed to get my 165 CCBWE 0551VPMW prime stable for 12 hours last night at 2.7Ghz 1.47v 45 LOAD. I have found to my suprise that if I run my RAM 1:1 prime is not a problem but if I use dividers I cant get stable. I have never been able to get my Ram to 300Mhz with my 3700 san diego but the mem controllers on these opty's seem great. I'm going to try for 2.8Ghz tonight and hopefully my RAM will do 311Mhz.

I was really suprised with the temps. I bought one of those Arctic Coolers 64 that OCUK had on offer for the last few days. Its the best 14 quid I have spent for a long time !!! I had one of those Vapochill Micro things (ost 30 quid) and its rubbish in comparison

Is there a dual core patch that you have to download for the opty dual cores, i completed my setup yesterday with an opty 165 and just installing all the up to date drivers before i start to overclock it.

Yes there is a Microsfot patch and an AMD patch but dont install either of them unless you are having problems with games or machine running slow.

No, Windows will install the multi processor drivers for you. Check the BIOS is up to dat aswell.

Side note, Gibbo just confirmed that he has some 170's in stock. I just bought one. My wife is gonna go ballistic when she gets home !!! I also bought 2gb of the G.Skill 4000 HZ. Man, I am so dead.... LOL :D :D :D

This means I now have a 3ghz naked 146, 2gb of OCZ Platinum 3200 and a 165 for sale !

lol i bought a 170 from america, and i have just got it today, cost me £270 and now you can get them from overclockers without all the hassle!! lol
benktlottie why are you getting a 170 when you have a 165 which is reaching 2.7-2.8? i doubt you'll do much better tbh

From what I've read the 165 do about the same overclock as the 170 and the 165 you got seems to be doing a lot better than average too! Might as well save the notes ;)

Fortunately, I can generally sell the benefits of a new processor to the wife !!! Theres always the question of how far things will overclock though. I think I will give the 170 a try, and keep the highest clocker of the 2. From what I read in the MEMORY section, some people have hit DDR 540-550 with the G.Skill HZ, so this will give me some scope using a 166 divider with the 165. I am certain that the 165 has more in her. I know that some of these Opteron dont scale so well with extra voltage though. I'm basically looking to achieve a game play stable 2.8-2.9ghz dual core chip, and I feel lucky this weekend.

TEGGS - how is the chip from the states doing ??
