GTX280 --> 6870 Worth it?

I guess it probably would make sense to wait to see what kind of extra performance 6970 would give over the 6870 and what the premium is for that extra oomph!

It will be an upgrade but not by much, I run 2x gtx280's in SLI which in Directx9/10 terms is about the same speed if not a little quicker than a single GTX480.

My other system runs eyefinity with a 5870 and is about 3/4 the speed of my SLI'd 280 system.

So as the 6870 is about a quarter slower than the 5870 its not much of an upgrade :)

Best wait for the 69xx cards which hopefully will be an improvement.

If I were to stick with Nvidia to maximise it's potential and longevity it'd be a GTX480 I'd be looking at as I'd be limited to a single card on my system. And at present I'm not really wanting to splash out that much in one go... hence the reason I was considering the 68's

Bit of an improvement now, with DX11 thrown as well.. and the option to xfire later, but I think waiting to see what happens with the 69's is the most sensible option at the minute. Or even waiting to see what happens to the 5870's or 5970's once the 69's are released...

I have gtx 280 as well, was tempted to upgrade, but maybe not now after these comments, would adding another gtx280 for sli, be another option, although my MB only does x8 in sli ( P7P55d EVO and i5750) would running @ x8 impact performance much, or is it really worth the hassle??
