Modders rebuilding STALKER with Cryengine 2

Meh, if you hate the gun accuracy get a mod like Oblivion Lost. Makes it so the start items aren't absolutely useless. Good fun popping off heads with a hunting shotgun.

Agree with LeJosh though. The atmosphere doesn't look in any way like a STALKER game.

Well what turned me off the STALKER series was the gun handling, well in the first game anyway, havent played the others.

I remember first playing it starting out with that rubbish pistol you get in the first game. I made my way to those to soldiers guarding the railway bridge area. If I remember rightly, I think they wanted a fee before I could go through. Of course I thought no way and went and hid up in that old barn thats opposite. Then I started firing off some shots attemting to kill them so I could gain free entry.
I remember it being the longest shoot out I ever had in a game and it was amazing fun. The gun was so inaccurate and after a while i kept getting a blockage. This is what I loved about the game :) It had it's bugs but I soon forgot them.

That's one monumental task they're trying to undertake there - it'll no doubt end up like the Black Mesa source re-make of halflife where it's been years and years and still no release.

Would be interested in it though as the physics certainly would be better and once they get the weather stuff down the atmosphere could be quite good indeed!

Slightly reminds me of the 1.1 Lurk mod (0.9 doesn't lose the original look iirc) where although it was a fresh, very different and impressive graphical overhaul, it did lose that original Stalker themed 'look'. Though I expect, like the Lurk mod, this will add more than it take away, at least as far as I was previously concerned ;). Looks very nice indeed to put it mildly.

There are already mods to enhance Stalkers atmosphere through weather and no doubt they do it considerably better.

Oh yea I know about those, I used the Stalker Complete mod when I last played the game through fully - there are so many different mods now that it's hard to know which to install without replicating efforts to improve atmosphere / gun dynamics etc across multiple mods.

It would be good if they could transfer some of the best weather dynamics to Cryengine 2 and still have the game look and feel like Stalker.

Some aspects of it appeal strongly to me, where as some others don't much at all. However, I'll be only too happy to give it a go when it finally arrives. :D
