Revision Firmware 0309 is now available. This firmware resolves the issue where a m4 SSD required restarts after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use.



If you are using a SAS Expander please do not download this Firmware. We are working on a Firmware Update that will work in these applications. We do not have a ETA for this right now.

Changes made in version 0002 (m4 can be updated to revision 0309 directly from either revision 0001, 0002, or 0009)
Correct a condition where an incorrect response to a SMART counter will cause the m4 drive to become unresponsive after 5184 hours of Power-on time. The drive will recover after a power cycle, however, this failure will repeat once per hour after reaching this point. The condition will allow the end user to successfully update firmware, and poses no risk to user or system data stored on the drive.

This firmware update is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for drives in the field. Although the failure mode due to the SMART Power On Hours counter poses no risk to saved user data, the failure mode can become repetitive, and pose a nuisance to the end user. If the end user has not yet observed this failure mode, this update is required to prevent it from happening.

If you are using a SAS Expander please do not download this Firmware. As soon as we have a Firmware Update that will work in these applications we will release it.

No data loss, and you can flash in AHCI mode, just make sure the SSD is on port 0, which will be your first SATA port.

Mine has flashed fine.

I'll update mine tomorrow. It was painless last time - a bootable ISO image and no need to switch to IDE mode temporarily.

This update only fixes the recently discovered bug, there are no speed improvements.

lovely.

luckily the sata 6gb's ports on my p8p67 evo are 1-3 , so insterted cd and it was done in 10 seconds.

didnt even have to change sata ports.

My own 128GB M4 updated with no problems using the USB method, and all my data is still intact and verified (although I imaged the drive before hand to be safe). I'm impressed by the speed and ease with which this issue was resolved.
 
Just updated my 64GB M4 and all is well. It is not on port 0 but the drive was detected fine.
Unlike when I updated my OCZ Vertex 2E drive (it just died) this time it booted and all seems well.
Phew - I really do not like doing this sort of thing after the OCZ situation.
 
This is what I used to flash via USB (I don't have a DVD drive)

Download the ISO from Crucial
Then get this tool

Step 1 Scroll down to the bottom. Select 'Try Unlisted Linux ISO (New Syslinux)'
Step 2 Extract the Crucial ISO file from the zip file, point the program at the ISO file
Step 3 Select the USB drive letter.

Reboot and boot from the USB stick
