Mini dv to hdd???

I have an old Sony handycam that uses digital tapes, I have about 6 tapes that I would like to transfer onto my hdd so I can edit etc etc.
The software that originally came is only xp compatible so I need some new software to help me transfer the stuff off the tapes

Any info would be very much appreciated

Something like Corel Videostudio should work - a trial can be downloaded.

just discovered i may not be able to do this now
i only have a a/v out socket on the camcorder
does anyone know if it is possible to get the data off the tapes to my pc via a/v out?

A capture card I think should work, you can pick a cheap one up from the Jungle to try it out?

the only way to keep yje digital quality of your tapes dootage is via firewire I'm afraid

borrow a friends etc
