Rather than intrude on rjkoneill's thread I thought i'd update this more generic one.
Like him and So Solid Krew, I got the 3M kit from the US. I couldn't find a UK reseller at the time. If only I knew someone who worked at 3M who could help out. Nope. Don't know of anyone like that. Maybe Solid does.
So here's what I did. Rather than do things I should have been doing, such as Wedding preparation and dealing with tenancy issues, procrastination set in and decided to mince around with the car after months of neglect after moving to potato land.
The lights are a retrofit from either an 8 MR or a 9 and were described as being in "excellent condition". However upon picking them up from Maidenhead I discovered that the seller had just slung them in his boot and they had been sliding around and were scratched considerably. Took it on the chin
How gash it looked. Dull, Pitted, Scratched.
6 Inch scrape from the previous car they were in.
More grimness
Taped up with Blue 3M goodness.
Duct Taped and attacked with the 500 Grit
After
With dipped on
It isn't perfect but it is so much better.
Suggestions:
- Drop the front bumper if you can
- Take your time on the first two stages as going back is a pain
- Be careful of bits that are tough to access (like the bottom left corner of mine as you look at it)
- Don't ask Minxy for help
- Blame her anyway if you screw it up
I'll do the other one another time.
Much love
xxx
P.S. I'm aware the rest of the front end needs a respray.
