Have people had any problems with this drive before ?

I had a Seagate 1.5 TB one (ST31500341as) which failed, and found loads of people online having the same problems with this drive, so am a bit reluctant to go for a seagate again, but then this does look like a good deal.

So you only paid less than £15 per drive? Not bad . . . . :p

£30 difference in total :p

I'll get over it. Sod's law with HDD prices

Great price from OcUK though, no doubt. Also as for reliability, these are the 7200.14 models with 1Tb platters. The previous gen 7200.12 drives had issues, these are a bit too new to tell for sure but 2 years warranty is better than some drives. Besides... keep it backed up and you can just swap it out if it dies.

For the sake of £30? No, I'm good.

Anyway just a quick note on real world performance on these (well, real-ish world). I've only got one at the moment and it's stuck on a Dell SAS6 controller BUT even so, according to Crystal it's doing 150MB/s read and 143.2MB/s write. That compares to the 3Tb version on an AMD SB850 controller running at 180.4MB/s read and 175.9MB/s write. So they're pretty fast.

Small caveat as well, both are raw mapped disks on ESXi so there is bound to be a little overhead there. I'll be running 4 of mine in RAID5 on a PERC6 controller, hoping for a healthy 400MB/s plus... :)
