Why would anyone buy a Samsung or HTC over a Nexus

Ok I dont know anything about phones I use a blackberry 9900 but after 10 years of using a qwerty KB I am thinking about a Touch screen phone.

Both the HTC one X and SG3 are about £500 but the Nexus is half that but with very similar spec.

So why would anyone buy a HTC or Samsung SG3 over a nexus?


EDIT: I also think its crazy to spend £500 on a phone!
 
Storage for one.
Pointless buying something for half the price if it can't do what you want. Now if they offered it in 32/64GB versions then taht would be different.

Also most people buy on contract, so there is no upfront cost. Also despite the cheap cost, o2 has a high contract cost anyway. Meaning its not great value anyway.

I know most buy on contract but I assume the contracts with the Nexus 4 are much cheaper owing to the fact that the phone cost the provider less.

I agree on the Note 2 but thats a different type of phone as it has a much bigger screen.
 
Contracts, I bet most people who have top of the range smart phones have them on contract off setting the cost to a monthly (although higher) payment.

You still have to pay £240 outright to get the Nexus 4 at a decent price, getting it on contract works out at about the same price as any other top of the range smart phone.
 
- Storage (this is huge)
- Removable battery
- Better camera/video recording (unsure about the former so much though)
- Screen type

It's getting on to be twice as expensive (SIM free) but it may be worth it depending on your needs.

Most knowledgeable people prefer stock Android but the latest Samsung TouchWiz has some really nice features on the GS3/Note2 as well.
 
Storage, screen, camera are my main things.

It's got to be the S3 LTE though as it has 2GB Ram and I prefer the grey colour over blue/white.
 
Technically because in the S3's case it has a superior camera, I prefer SAMOLED over IPS LCD, removable battery and SD slot (which for me is the most important) I don't want a device which is limited to 16Gb.

I also prefer the additions that Samsung have implemented in Touchwiz such as Smart Stay and Smart Dial.

Don't get me wrong the N4 is a good phone and awesome value for money but it just doesn't tick all the right boxes for me even though it's £279.
 
1. People often prefer the OEM software skins i.e. sense and touchwiz over stock android, IMO all of the apps are far better than stock android ones, stock android is too limited/minimal and the touchwiz and sense version of the camera, gallery, calendar are superior to the stock android alternatives IMO, each software skin has its own nice wee features like touchwiz smart stuff (although you get most of these things on the market now)

I prefer sense to everything else.

Only thing I like about stock android is the holo theme throughout.

2. Camera is better on the X, S and GS 3 overall

3. design is personal preference, IMO HTC phones are the nicest for design, especially the build and premium quality. I dislike the design of the GS 3 and it is the main reason why I haven't moved to one.

4. storage is a factor too, many people rule out the nexus devices and the HTC one X and S purely due to there being no SD slot or/and limited internal storage

5. Some people want a removable battery as they might travel a lot so having a few spares on you would be much better than having to charge at every chance available

6. screen quality and size, some don't want phones any bigger than 4.3" and some may want a much bigger screen like the note II

then you have;

LCD:

pure whites, natural colours, sharper/clearer, more power efficient on bright colours

VS

SAMOLED:

true blacks, saturated colours and better viewing angles overall, more power efficient on dark colours


Contract prices for the nexus 4 are actually similar to the other top end phones.


If I didn't have a budget, I rather have the one S, X+, XL, note II (if size wasn't an issue) or GS 3 LTE (if the design wasn't an issue)

As I said its not if any cheaper on contract. Like O2 fleeces you for it.
 
Thanks for the info guys

From the sounds of it I can live with shortfalls of the LG for the amount I would save. I did not take a phone with my contract because I got a much better deal without it.

EDIT: but I agree if they cost the same I would buy a HTC or SG3

I pay £20 + vat and I get
1000 min - these can be used for international mobile and landline calls in zone 1 and 2
Internet (3gb i think)
free land line calls
fee calls to others in my business.

Huge factor, I bought a N4 thinking it would tide me over till early next year when I could buy a Sammy or HTC flagship, s4, Note3, once 3 were doing lte and put the N4 to 2nd fone duties having just given my oldest my no2 Ace as his school fone and promised my youngest the Note for xmas n birthday pres, as is he isn't likely to get the Note and my old se c902 is doing no2 shift. So again a huuuuge factor!
