Hello 8 pack and all

I'm new to this forum , I am trying to get to grips with overclocking my new custom desktop a bit further than just the standard " gamer profile " options available to me .

I have some experience of overclocking when it comes to m18x as I managed a 4.4ghz oc on a i3940xm , but desktops seems to be a completely different world of overclocking lol.

I would like to get a 24/7 stable overclock of 4.8ghz to start with , currently I'm on the " gamer profile " of between 4.7 and 4.4 ghz oc

I have read through the x79 overclocking guid made by 8pack a few times and I would love to get that running on my machine , as that method also allowed me to use my 2,400mhz ram speeds as well , where as the " gamer profile " does not.

But the trouble is I'm getting stuck at the point 8pack moves to the second screen shot and starts talking about the "blk skew" and offering 3 different sets of numbers to put in their and from then on I don't really understand how to figure out what setting to start with on all the volts and other option around that area that are all currently set to auto ?

Should I just copy the setting that are in the screen shot ? As I'm not sure if that is what 8pack is suggesting and if they will fit as a starting point for my CPU ?

Please can 8pack or anybody in the know give me done extra guidance as I really enjoy overclocking I just wish I understood it all a bit better .

Here are my desktop specs:
Elysium case
i73970x
H110 push pull viper fans
Rampage IV extreme x79
GTX780 dual sli
G-skill 16gb 2,400mhz
2x ssd 480 raid 0 & 1tb hdd raid 5

Thanks for any help in advance

For 4.8 with 2400mhz RAM. Try the following, remembering each CPU is different.

48 Multi by all cores
Vcore 1.4v
VCCSA 1.195
VTT 1.15
DRAM voltage 1.65v
PLL 1.65
LLC High
For RAM set XMP and Rampage Mode 1

Now test. Vcore may need to go up depending on the CPU.

I now have a big problem .. I have set my bios to the settings you have me and I saved and exited and now all that happens is my desktop will power up but nothing is coming through the monitor and keyboard is not lighting up .. I can not even get in to the bios as my computer is not doing anything when I turn it on .. Only lights come on on the pc case .. But nothing on screen at all .... HELP how do I fix this ??? I'm panicking now

Update... IV tried the "reset" button that I can see on the motherboard but that does not seem to do anything ? Are u mean to push it or push and hold it .. Well I tried both and I still got the same issue

At this point I'm feeling like I have broken my machine well and truly :-( please help ?

I have managed to get back up and running ish , after taking out the mb battery ,

But now it is telling me my windows OS is not genuine ?? And it is so how to I fix this ?

And next .. Please tell me what went wrong with the over clock ? I imputed the setting exactly as you said ?

Ok .. But please can you tell me what has happened to my OS , why is it now showing as not genuine ? And how do I fix this please

Update ... Hmm guessing IV been sold a fake copy of windows 7 .. It just odd that it only shows up now after this big lock out of the bios and not a week ago when I set up my pc .

I guess I will have to buy a new copy of windows 7 pro in the morning :-(
Expensive mistak :-(

Do you think that it could be this fake is that made the oc fail and lock out of bios ?

I am not sure what has happened to that. It may well be because the system date will have changed as a result of a bios reset. You should be able to register it again with MS to make it "genuine again" The OS is linked to the major components of the RIG which have not changed so this should not be a problem.

Pull the internet plug out of the pc,then try activating windows,it will then give you an option to register it by phone,do this and write all the codes down on screen, phone the freephone number and enter all the codes written down

Then write down the codes it gives you over the phone and enter them into the activation in windows and it should register as valid

Thx .. This worked .. Thank you all in this thread that replyed so fast to help me .. Now I just need to build up enough balls to try the overclock again lol ... Any last minute words of advice 8 pack before I try it again tomorrow ?

Thx

8 track please can you clarify the settings you are surgesting for me to try ... As you said a few posts up that maybe I should try vtt 1.15v

But this is the same as what you told me to set it to in the first set of settings ? Did you make a typo or did I miss understand you ?

I just want to make sure of the settings before I try it again

And is " LLC" short for " load- line calibration , in the bios ?

Hello 8 Pack , firstly thanks again for all your help so far.

I'm get ready for attempt 2 and I thought it would be a good idea for me to check with you that I have understood correctly which setting you are asking me to adjust .
So I have listed all the setting you gave me and I have tried to show you how I have Interpreted your setting in the hope that you can correct me where needed please ( I'm fairly sure that I have misinterpreted some of the setting you gave me and the result was a total lock out and complete fail on my part , as you know lol )

Aiming for 4.8ghz , 2,400mhz

Multi by all cores = "turbo ratio " and
48 = by all cores ( can adjust in OS )

Vcore 1.4v = CPU vcore manual voltage

VCCSA 1.195 = CPU vccsa manual voltage

VTT 1.15 = VTT CPU voltage

DRAM voltage 1.65v = ( I have 2 setting that are both called this next to each other In my bios so I set them both to the 1.15)
. Dram voltage (CHA CHB ) &
Dram voltage ( CHC CHD) .... (I think this maybe one of the areas that I have messed up in? ) please can you tell me which one I should be adjusting or clarify if this is, or is not the setting you mean ,or is their another setting somewhere ells that I should be looking for that looks similar?

PLL 1.65 = CPU PLL voltage

LLC High = under the setting " DIGI + power control " > VCCSA load-line calibration "High" ( is this the correct setting to adjust to high ?)

For RAM set XMP (= xmp found in "Ai overclock tuner" ( set to "XMP" )

Rampage Mode 1= found under "dram timing control" > rampage tweak (set to "mode 1")
....please can I ask about this setting what is the reason for going with mode 1 over mode 2 ... The reason I ask is I read this on asus forum
"Rampage Tweak: A setting of Mode 2 is recommended for overclocking memory over DDR3-2000 or if using 64GB of memory."
I'm guessing using mode 1 keeps things cooler and still allowed me to use 2,400mhz ? Or something like that.

Other settings I had changed are :
BLCK frequency "100"
CPU strap "100"
Memory frequency "2,400"
Extreme tweaking " enabled"
All others setting are at default for "gamer oc profile "

I have always been starting from the " gamer oc profile" and adding all these setting from their.( please can you tell me if that is correct starting place to start adjusting from ?)

I hope this makes sense

And thank you again in advance

Ok thx 8pack I will make sure I start from a cleared bios this time and I will add clock gen filter.

Please can you check over the info I posted above , to check I'm adjusting the correct setting that you are asking me to ?

Particularly the Dram voltage issue I talked about ,and should I have changed the extra settings that I listed , or should I have ONLY made the changes that you listed and leave ALL ells on default , from cleared bios ? Ie CPU strap I thought needed to be set to 100 and the others seemed like they were needed ?

Sorry for so many questions , I'm just a bit of a noob with overclock desktops and I really want to get a good all around cool overclock of 4.8ghz and 2,400mhz

Thx again

Please explain what you mean by " leave em for now"

What does this mean for my dram voltage issue ?
Is that a yes or no to using the extra settings I added to your setting you gave ?
And are the settings I'm adjusting the correct settings ?

Thx
