02 and be broadband ban that website

Awwwwwwwwww diddums as people can't access a site that helps you download things illegally :( :o

Boo friggin hoo

the ISP's don't want to block it they have just been made to, from some outdated dinosaur in court because the music industry is crying care bear tears on top of its millions

How about buy your music you little scrounger? :p

Sigh. This is not about a certain site being blocked. It's about freedom. Who should police the internet? The internet, from it's very conception, was a place for freedom for points of view. Do you want this country to end up like China where everything is filtered and monitored?

What starts happening when they block access to sites because they don't like the content? That's exactly what SOCA / etc. are all about.

It's a very slippery slope. Can't wait for the 'we're doing this because of terroism' line to be used.

I'm all for freedom, and freedom for points of view and the like.

But there is freedom of speech, and being able to talk about things. Then there is leaving websites open and available which QUITE CLEARLY do not monitor what traffic comes from / through / via them that is obviously illegal.

Do you not see the difference? I'm all for torrents, as they are a good way to distribute files to the masses. But websites that get closed down because they allow copyrighted material to be distributed freely (ie, the torrent links to the files) quite frankly deserve to get shut down.

You don't walk in to HMV, and pick up an album you like and just walk out do you? No. :p

If you want to download films and music and anything else that shouldn't be 'free', then fair enough, continue to do so. But don't moan when you CAN'T do it because a website has been blocked.

You're example isn't the same and you know it :D A comparable example would be walking into HMV to look at the posters, while you were in there you drew one of the posters pixel perfect and left with your copy.

Nothing has been stolen.

Here we go again with the copy/stolen argument.

At the end of the day, if everybody decided it was alright to go into HMV and make a copy of the album and leave, who is actually going to buy the music in the first place?

No, it's an exact copy, and it has been stolen. End of.

A comparable example would be you walking in to HMV, removing one of the CD's from it's packaging and ripping it onto your laptops hard drive, then placing it back on the shelf and walking out of the shop.

It's theft, end of. But again, people can do what they will, I don't really care :p Just don't come moaning to me, when decent sites get shut down and the web becomes more and more filtered because people can't share stuff legally.

Again no torrents are held on the TPB servers. How can you tell it's actually illegal material until you download it? Do they not have legal torrents on there (I don't use TPB).

As Mitzy has said it's a copy. If you make a great product at a good price then people will buy it. I find games, with there horrendous DRM a nightmare. I don't want to have to hunt CD's down to play a game. I don't want to have to have an always on internet connection. I wan't to play it on my laptop and my PC. I don't want only three installs and then I have to buy the blooming game I already own.

Have you seen the DVD vs Pirated chart? Essentially put pirated DVD in and press play and watch the film. If you get a DVD you have to watch the anti-piracy trailer, other film trailers, another copyright warning and then finally the movie - how is this actually adding to the enjoyment?

Companies need to go the way of GOG and make games accessible rather than being draconian.

What do people think about the program called hotspot ?

http://hotspotshield.com/

I tried hotspot which uses VPN, and well I liked it surfs all the sites I wanted and its not restricted and it says my ISP or no one knows what websites or what im doing online, am thinking of buying it for 20 quid.

Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Also it does surf that website ;)

This is not theft, people do not get charged for theft and you've already said its a copy. Get your terms right kid :p

This is really the poorest block imaginable... but that's what's so good about the net, sites are hard to 'block'. Apart from there being a million and one replacements and torrent search engines that just scrape the bay there's also those massively popular things called http proxies.
