Cheapest C1 on PH is over 3k, cheapest C2 is over 2k and you would be extremely hard pushed to get a Yaris for a grand.

My mates girfriend got a c3 diesel recently pretty much brand new for 3k, couple of years old, about 20k on the clock...

I'm glad your mates girlfriend got a car below market value however the OP has a grand to spend so it rules out the C1 and C2.

They can be had for around a grand, on the oldest plates. Find one thats done low mileage, and has always been garaged by some careful old dear/grandad and serviced annually.

A Citroen Xsara is a small hatchback about the size of a Ford Focus or Peugeot 306. It is not a saloon.
