50% is over-zealous (I believe).
At most, I would estimate 1 person in 20 would comply (and give the money [therefore]).
I think it is a bad idea (the estimate of "1 in 20" is too high also [I would guess]).

How do you know i'm not already doing that?
True, I don't. Though in saying that there are better means than begging.
I know you're right. I'm not thinking 50% of people will give me a pound. But what if I asked for 20p. 10,000 at a 50% success rate will get me £1000.
Yeah i'm not saying I can't pay it. I work part time too and do full time hours over the holidays. It would just make things a lot easier and £1 from a lot of people isn't much.
Its just a thought in my head, not much of a practical one as it is bascially begging.
Just the money situation is tight especially when you don't really have any family to be backed up by.

Sounds to me like how tax should be/works.
Everyone puts money in, then when it's together its quite a large amount which can be spent on something which is more impressive than the multiple smaller amounts.
The only fallacy (in the post [quoted in this post]) being that tax is (generally) mandatory (for most people), and thus there is some form of guarantee that one can achieve a large amount (relatively) in a rather small number of people. Asking for money has no such regularity (giving to a person who asks for money is not [generally] mandatory).

angus higgins please stop trying to create this image of yourself as a person of super intellect and such. it would not surprise me if you were in those teenage years when you are trying to find yourself.
I am not "trying to make my self look intelligent". (I don't even know what you mean by "find yourself" [so I cannot comment upon this]. To my knowledge I have never "lost myself". [So "finding myself" is not necessary]).

It's beyond a joke now thoughYour website has nothing like this and you even said in the thread about you that you don't use the bracket system in your day to day.
Do raffle tickets and make ** money back and then some for a imaginary raffleMake sure u try this when a fair is in town or somit.

Why not just get a job (£7 per hour [after tax {not that there would be too much}]) for 166 hours, and it will give the money necessary (and slightly more)?
Just a random thought, don't worry i'm not asking for money.
But I was thinking i'm having a bit of a problem with my student funding and it leaves me in a tight situation. But just imagine if I asked 2000 people for £1and 50% said yes I'd have nearly enough money to pay for my fees.
A weird thought indeed. Anyway not much of a question here so not much point to the thread, but what do you all think?
