£1 from 1000 people

True, I don't. Though in saying that there are better means than begging.

Yeah i'm not saying I can't pay it. I work part time too and do full time hours over the holidays. It would just make things a lot easier and £1 from a lot of people isn't much.

Its just a thought in my head, not much of a practical one as it is bascially begging.

Just the money situation is tight especially when you don't really have any family to be backed up by.

I know you're right. I'm not thinking 50% of people will give me a pound. But what if I asked for 20p. 10,000 at a 50% success rate will get me £1000.

At a rate of 1 person per minute (much higher than one would be able to achieve [I believe]), this would take around 166 hours. (Over 40 days at 4 hours per day).

Why not just get a job (£7 per hour [after tax {not that there would be too much}]) for 166 hours, and it will give the money necessary (and slightly more)? (With a job one could obtain the money in a much more easy [and respectable way {dare I say?}] than this plan of asking for it).

It's like those alcoholics that wander the streets in the morning after 50p for "money for a cup of tea" or "money for their bus" then collect from several people and buy strong tins of beer.

good idea, although in the time it takes to get that amount of money you could probably work and make more money.

Any you wouldn't be considered a hobo..

Sounds to me like how tax should be/works.
Everyone puts money in, then when it's together its quite a large amount which can be spent on something which is more impressive than the multiple smaller amounts.

The only fallacy (in the post [quoted in this post]) being that tax is (generally) mandatory (for most people), and thus there is some form of guarantee that one can achieve a large amount (relatively) in a rather small number of people. Asking for money has no such regularity (giving to a person who asks for money is not [generally] mandatory).

angus higgins please stop trying to create this image of yourself as a person of super intellect and such. it would not surprise me if you were in those teenage years when you are trying to find yourself.

to the original poster the problem is that 1000 people is far greater number than you think. it would be a better idea to ask your whole extended family for a tenner.

freshy (plain and simple [no need to impress])

I am not "trying to make my self look intelligent". (I don't even know what you mean by "find yourself" [so I cannot comment upon this]. To my knowledge I have never "lost myself". [So "finding myself" is not necessary]).

It's beyond a joke now though  Your website has nothing like this and you even said in the thread about you that you don't use the bracket system in your day to day.

What is my "day-to-day"? (I communicate mainly on the Internet, and I use the "bracket system", or "bracketing system" [as named by myself] when on the Internet [I also use it in text {in some forms (and also to varying degrees)}]).

At the time of making the website (which I might change soon [in other terms, it might be changed in the next few weeks {as of the time stamp in this post}]) I had not fully implemented the "bracket system", or "bracketing system" (as named by myself). (I do not want to have to discuss this topic [again] as I have gone over it many times).

You wouldn't be taxed on £1000 of earnings. Although an average student job probably wouldn't pay that much (?)

Just a random thought, don't worry i'm not asking for money.

But I was thinking i'm having a bit of a problem with my student funding and it leaves me in a tight situation. But just imagine if I asked 2000 people for £1and 50% said yes I'd have nearly enough money to pay for my fees.

A weird thought indeed. Anyway not much of a question here so not much point to the thread, but what do you all think?

We call that Begging where i come from, You Tramp :p
