Is how long I 've been quit smoking for :D

managed to save myself around £38 so far so by my reckoning at the end of next month I'll have somewhere around £200 to play and treat myself.

Just thought I'd share this with everyone. I decided to quit after going through close to 450 cigs in 2 weeks on holiday and losing my voice and the fact that where I work is going non smoking as of September 1st. I am now starting to feel great and my taste and smell have started to come back :D

Sorry for the self pimpage

Good for you mate

I still smoke but I barely go through a pack a week these days.

My trick was to limit places I would smoke e.g only once or twice at work or when I'm out at night.

It's mostly social now-a-days, I can't even remember when I smoked alone.

I enjoy smoking but this way it cuts down risks to my health

I just walk around with a packet with 1 ciggy in it, so I know that I have one if I get desperate but I've not gotten to that point yet :)

Good on you R0551, I know how hard it is to quit but your technique of smoking yourself daft seems to have worked, I might try it.

I quit smoking every Sunday night, for about 3 or 4 days, but I just can't go a weekend without a 20 pack. I've turned in to a social smoker and I've no idea if I'm addicted or not.

I can't say categorically, but i think this is a myth. I'll have a search around now, but i think even if you smoke 1-4 a day, the risk of cancer/whatever is greatly increased from that of a non-smoker. I agree it's cut your risk from smoking 40 a day, but it's not as much as you'd think unfortunately.

Well done mate keep it up. My parents used to be very heavy smokers when we were wee kids and one day just decided to give up. they've been of them now for 7 or so years and are a lot healthier for it. Both have put on a bit of weight due to eating to compensate but they are still much healthier and more fit.

Personally I can't stand smokers (no offence to anyone). I avoid them at all costs just because the smell alone drives me mad and I know i'm not alone in the world. If mum and dad were to start again i'd move out. Saving up what you'd normally spend on cigaretts will give you someting in itself to keep you off them. Good luck!

I remember learing in Science that each cigarette smoked takes 5 minutes of your life.

1 thing I've found out since quitting is that I can't stand the smell of them anymore. One of my sisters still smokes and after she has had one I can't go near here as the smell makes me feel sick.

Welcome to our world :p I've grown up with both my parents being rediculously heavy and ignorant smokers.

It's a pity you're so prejudiced against people who smoke. We are, after all, just the same as non-smokers except we occasionally blow smoke out of our faces. You're writing off about 1/4 of the population of the UK.

I stopped 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 15 Hours and 2 Minutes ago, and have saved £35.78.

I only used to smoke 10 a day but im still proud! I dont get cravings much anymore apart from when im at the pub or out in town but ive still managed to refrain so far!

Depends on the disease. Some cancers depend on years smoked, some on pack years and some on absolute volume.

Also certain dieseses will not manifest if a person quits by a certain age (ie mid 20s for most).

There are a number of other factors, but generally the more you smoke the worse your outlook - if you are happy with that, who am I to say otherwise (though it would be nice to go to a pub/club or travel on a preston bus where nobody smokes)

edit: and well done to the op and anyone else, good luck keeping it going :)
