10 O'Clock Live

Yeah I think it was a very strong show last night, my only gripe is that each discussion/interview segment isn't long enough, it always seems to be cut short just as it's getting interesting.

Jimmy Carr's gag on the Nimrods and Saudi Arabia was a bit close to the mark though! Funny, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got into trouble. Thing is though, you know that Jimmy Carr is joking and trying to be funny, if someone like Frankie Boyle said that he'd probably get lynched as he'd just be a dick about it. That's the difference.

David Mitchell is always entertaining, with the right mix of down to earth awkwardness, irony, well-structured and thought out jokes, mild ranting and ballsy enough to call anyone he's talking to who makes a stupid comment.

David M is actually quite a refreshing interviewer, he doesnt interrupt them every 5 seconds!

I thought Dave Mitchell looked extremely nervous when interviewing Alastair Campbell, he talked faster and faster as he went which is one of the signs. Just goes to show how good proper interviewers have to be when dealing with someone as skilled as AC, especially when having to do it live. Was funny overall though. Over the recent years I've gone from hating Charlie Brooker through to mild indifference to my current position of thinking he's actualy pretty damn funny, even if he is a absolute jammy git to be shagging Konnie Huq.

Only seen the first one, unfortunately for a show that wants to be political at heart, but a light hearted take, its just taking the most popular views and making obvious jokes, with obvious types of guests while trying to tell them they are wrong.

Lets get a banker on and tell them bonuses are stupid and blame the banks for the recession, lets get that education guy on and tell him it seems unfair for students to pay for their own education, etc, etc.

Its so, predictable, predictable subject matter, predictable view, predictable jokes and a stupid boring blonde bint.

Like Charlie Brooker, in general, don't mind Carr though he's completely wrong in this kind of setting, don't mind Mitchell at all but again not really the right format for him but ultimately its just pandering to the easy (and usually incorrect) political view thats most popular. Theres little to no original thought or reasoning, just "what subject is the Daily Mail whipping up the general masses into a frenzy with uninformed opinion about today".

The Daily show just makes this look so highly amateurish, because he at least KNOWS ABOUT POLITICS, and makes some actually funny jokes.

I thought it turned to a pretty poor interview, AC is always going to be one of the more difficult interviewees and it doesn't help that it's been rushed both weeks. I think although it would go against the live ethos they should pre-record the interviews, maybe just half 9 or something, so the audience are there, gives time for a quick edit down from a longer interview and they could post the full interview online so they weren't omitting anything.

I switched over to Question Time, so I didn't see the whole thing, but I thought David's interview with Alastair Campbell was excellent. One funny part was when he said "Answer the question!" about three seconds after having asked it. :p Charlie Brooker was ok, but I only saw him for a minute, and as usual, Jimmy Carr did nothing for me other than freak me out a little bit.

It was pretty good, but I'll take Question Time over it next week. :)

As above I thought this weeks offering was considerably better, I was hoping it would improve as the weeks went by and the team of presenters gelled together and became more comfortable with that they had to do.
However the mix of serious political interviews with heavyweight guests and lowest common denominator jokes still rubs me slightly the wrong way. It's as if David Mitchell wants to ask serious questions about the economy or taxation while telling fart jokes over his shoulder to the audience.

Still a lot of room for improvements in my opinion.

Funny stuff plus has Mitchell and Brooker under one roof which is just genius. But I can't shake the feeling that all the jerky camera work and rock addled transitions would make it the sort of thing Charlie Brooker would hate.

Just saw the last episode, my first of the series, I really enjoyed it. Is it live? I used to really hate Jimmy Carr's style but recently I'm finding him more and more amusing.
Yes it's live, that's the point...
It does suffer from it in some ways though, this week I thought was one of the best structured interviews, but others have suffered from too much filler early on then running out of time as it gets juicy

I think I've realised what one of the main problems is with the show. They are trying to maintain such a level of pace and energy and make it all seem so slick that when they stumble over words or something goes wrong it seems like a catastrophe. If they relaxed the pace and made it more conversational the presenters would be easier about making mistakes and it would probably improve a lot.
It's not bad at the moment but it's no The Daily Show. Charlie Brooker is probably my favourite at the moment.

(and have you noticed whenever David Mitchell is doing his 'talk to the camera' piece in front of the green background that the camera is constantly moving ever so slightly? It's really annoying and off putting and just makes you wonder why they don't have a camera stand there)
