Hi guys,

I posted on here a little while ago and was pointed towards some IE7s on play.com. Like a lot of people I got screwed over (they cancelled) by play and will be avoiding them like the plague.

I'm still keen to buy some headphones and I guess I would like to spend ~£100. Could you point me in the right direction?

Uses:
Listening to music on the way to work (ipod)
Perhaps watching movies on my lappy when working away from home.

Thanks all
Mike

I wouldn't spend £100 on in ears. Get some binable in ears, cx - 200's do a decent job for £15, for when in ear's are acually needed and look at a decent set of cans for the rest of the time, Goldring NS1000's come recomended on here.

How about the Sony MDR-EX500LP? I got them a week ago and they are great. Cost between £45-50

Why spend that much on earphones? i've spent £3 on mine, and they are the most comforable i ever had. In fact, after 3 years they broke, and were so good i bought another set.

My m8 spent something stupid on his, and the difference isn't noticeable.

Cans (whole ear covering) are much better, you can get some real bassy ones.

I own the NS1000's and in my opinion my IEM's (Head Direct RE0 and Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 Pro) surpass them in every respect except comfort.

I don't know what earphones your friend bought but this seems extremely unlikely.

@Op

I'm not too clued up on Ipods, do they have an equaliser? If they do then I highly recommend the Head Direct RE0's. They come in under your budget and sound fantastic. Their launch price was considerably higher and many people thought they were worth it even then (check old head-fi reviews though bear in mind the cable construction has changed since then). The only problem (for some) is if you like bass you'll have to add it yourself since while they are capable of producing a lot of bass, you have to give the bass to them they don't provide it for you.

I think something is severely wrong with either your ears or your headphones if you can't tell the difference between a £3 pair and a decent pair.

As daz said, the difference to stock earphones and a decent £100+ pair is huge mate and I've gone from the bottom end to the top.

It would help if you could tell us if you like big bass, or more clarity with a better high end.

If I were you, I'd try and locate a pair of second hand triple.fi's/IE8's from some websites like Head.fi or AV Forums, as either of those two will blow you away. You could also buy some RE0's brand new or try to locate some IE7's new if you can.

Maybe they're just an amazing pair of £3? I had some £20 and they weren't as good.

My ones look tacky, and they're a bit rubbery, but they are really comfortable, and great sound quality :D (but they sound awful with only one in for some reason. AMybe i'm jsut good with teh EQ :D

Your best bet is to read reviews on Head-fi's forum, if you can understand half of the audiophile nonsense they use.

Sennheiser HD555 one of the best bang per buck the will cost you around £80-90 best investment ive ever done tbh.

All I can say is sorry to hear that Play screwed your order up, and that I hope you find some soon (seems like you've been on the hunt for a while now).

You can get them into your ears?

I agree with some of what's been said so far. Check out head-fi and also decide what sort of sound signature you are looking for based on your music tastes.

Sennheiser HD555 are the worst bang for buck they should be around £40-£50.

As said get on head fi forums.

Sennheiser IE6 are pretty good on a budget as are head direct.

I'd certainly say try and budget in an e5 amp and comply tips in to your purchase.
