i know mate any ideas im useing a cat 5 cable could it be that do i need cat 6 or should i get back on the phone to them

may want to check the upstream power:

Upstream Channels
Lock Status Modulation Channel ID Max Raw Bit Rate Frequency Power
Locked ATDMA 1 20480 Kbits/sec 27400000 Hz 38.2 dBmV

38.2 could be the problem may need to be increased at the cabinet.
Had a ropey connection on similar once i was moved to a different tap problem was sorted!
Best to post on the virgin forums and await a reply - normally upto 4 days or call them.

Sounds fine then, pretty much on the speed.

900KB/sec is about 7Mbit speeds. That is in no way acceptable for a 100Mbit connection.

Won't matter, cat5 is sufficient for gigabit speeds even up to 100 metres so there's nothing wrong with your cabling. As suggested above, make a posting on the VM forums - the guys there are pretty good.

Technically cat5 is only capable of 10/100, you're thinking of cat5e which is perfectly capable of handling gigabit bandwidth. That said, ordinary cat5 should still be just about fine for a 100Mbps connection, and I assume the OP meant cat5e anyway :)

Absolutely right, I did indeed mean cat5e, my bad ;) I'd be surprised if people were still using plain cat5 cable these days though but a good point.
