Hi All,

I recently got a nvidia 3060ti founders edition and looking to build a gaming pc.

My budget for the PC is around £800 - £1000 excluding GPU. If possible I would like to be able to game at 1440p(not sure if 3060ti will be powerful enough) and will also be used for programming. Any recommendations much appreciated and thanks for your time.

Do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse?

12400f is cheaper at £169.99 and it's the same CPU minus the built in GFX.
OP has gpu so doesn't need the built in graphics

Unless the budget is so tight you have no choice but to go for the F sku part I will always advise to go for a cpu with built in igpu. It may never be used but it is always there if you have a problem with your gpu and will mean you have a working PC in case of emergencies.

This is a judgement call and in 9 cases out of 10 it may be a waste but in the other 1 case it may save a persons backside. I have old spare gpus I can plug in to use for video output and for testing purposes, the majority of other people do not so a faulty gpu can be a real issue.

I can do much better for slightly more than £800.

Why would you not get this motherboard when it's that cheap? And that CPU is much better for gaming.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £857.15 (includes delivery: £12.30)

Edit: this chassis only supports SFX PSUs, will update this build with a new Chassis

I'm in the same basket as this really. I quite like having an iGPU. It's really handy if you want to sell your GPU and upgrade it. Between GPUs, you can still use your computer.

Anyway, my above build is fantastically fast but I'm not sure if that CPU cooler is enough to cool a 12600KF.

do you advise an anti static wrist band too?

isn't a kf with the igpu disabled? don't you just want the 12600k version?

Erm, yes it is but since OP didn't say that he definitely wanted the iGPU version so I chose the KF CPU.

For my own personal needs, the regular K version can be beneficial. I would get the 12600K for my own personal needs, as above. Let's not confuse my needs with OPs.
Guess depends how soon OP would wants it, as the 12600k oem version is £259.99, but on order with OCuk

Also, just noticed, it's the older 011d mini version, so think you'll need a SFX power supply
Hey, sorry I should have said no peripherals required. The budget is purely for the PC. Thanks
Do you want wifi on board?

Something like this keeps you well under budget.

The 12400/F is the best price to performance i5.

Pretty decent B660 board which will be fine if you want to stick an i7/i9 in there later on.

A 750W psu is plenty for this build.

The case is personal pref so you might want something else. The P300A is pretty good for the price. The two extra fans would be for the front.

Not sure what the Jonsbro cooler is like. You don't need anything high end though for a 12400. A Deepcool AK400 would be a good alternative, but not sold on here.

thought I'd max out budget for a change

mainly white build except ram, ocuk don't seem to have any white

some changes

PSU..Corsair RM850(2021) away for £88-90...10yrs warranty so good for next gpu upgrade from 3060ti..anyway, saves £10
the aio can be had for £100 saving £40
32gb white pro vengeance 3200c16 rgb can be had for £130 saving £19
Could go for 4000d airflow also for £89 saving another £30
drop aio for arctic A35i ..£36.95 on OCUK
drop to 12600 for £215(though Ocuk don't sell it, saving £45) or 12400 for £188.99 saving £71

Total: £1,042.85 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thanks everyone for the replies, has been really useful.

I do have a follow up question about some of the options and I see mainly people are suggesting micro ATX boards and just wondered if this is just because they are better value for the level I am looking at?

Yes it is purely based upon the price. At the moment the cheaper B660/Z690 mobos are micro ATX and they perform just as well as full sized ATX mobos. If you went back a few generations you would be making serious compromises by going with a micro atx mobo but that is not really the situation with the current gen.

All the major mobo players have full sized ATX versions so if you prefer them to help fill out the case then you are free to go that route, will cost a touch more but there are viable options available.

put some atx boards in if you prefer. Top 2 are Z690 boards, same board, but with/without wifi. Personally, i like the freedom of wifi on board, and don't want to have dongles etc... The board is probably best budget z690 board. Mid range you'd be looking at the Z690 tomahawk or Z690 Tuf gaming d4 wifi around the £250/£260
Bottom 2 are b660 boards, the tuf gaming been reduced in price so actually similar to the motar I put in above. The strix a is a good board but pricey..put it in as goes well with a white build and more like a z690 board in that the gpu slot is pcie5 and has 3 nvme gen 4 slots(had seen it down at £168 but sold out in a day). would have put the tomahawk in also around the £190 mark, but sold out on OCuk so can add to below

worth watching Hardware unboxed

Here's my take on what you can do with a good balance of everything. Intel i7 12700F with the 8+4 configuration on the cores, 32GB of decent DDR4, quality board with Wi-Fi (it's like £5 more than not having it), a great 2TB NVMe SSD, a good quiet AIO to go in a case that offers god airflow, oh and an 850w PSU wit ha good warranty just for future proofing if you change the GPU.

Everything it totally plain, no flashing lights, just performance and reliability in mind. I built almost this exact machine last week, but it had the Be Quiet! case as well, which is an option if you want even less noise, but also a warmer system. :)

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700F 2.1 GHz 12-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Loop 240 Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI PRO B660M-A WIFI DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Memory: Patriot Viper Steel 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Case: KOLINK Citadel Mesh MicroATX Mini Tower Case
