Never really considered an Intel system TBH. Ive not been keeping an eye on the market recently, last time I was building a PC AMD where considered the bast value.

I'll have to reconsider my options now.

As for the system your suggesting zap I would prefer an Asus mobo if possible + you have added 2 lots of RAM :)

I want this to be as high a spec as possible with the money I have set aside. Keep them comming guys.

I'm currently running an AMD rig (in my sig) but have upraded to a Conroe system as inevery department the Conroe rig will spank mine. If your going to spend that kind of money then a Conroe is the way to go.

Hi,
Without a dought you should get a 2.4ghz conroe atleast for a high/top-end gaming rig (i think 99.9% of people here will agree) and i wouldnt buy nVidia even tho im a nvidia fanboy :p

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS)
£129.99 £129.99
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)
£195.99 £195.99
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-108-CS)
£199.99 £199.99
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-050-CO)
£249.99 £249.99

The gx2's are a waste of money the 1950 is powerfull enough for anything :D - i would have got one of these if i had the funds when i got my spec the other week (in sig) hope this helps, btw what PSU do you intend to use might i recomend the seasonic s12 600watt very nice :)

Hi M8

Thanks for the reply. The PSU I'll be using is:

FSP Sparkle FX700-GLN Epsilon 700W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-001-SK)

I think this should do the trick :)

Yes it should be ok altho i owned a sparkle 6800gt and it went kaput after 10months but it was abused :D GET THE SPEC I SAID YOU WILL LOVE IT! i absolutly adore my rig sad i know but theres a geek inside all us techys not matter how cool you think you are :p but what i suggested is faster, Conroe + 1950xtx + 2gb + asus delux = happy busman (if there is such a thing lewl)

Would it be worth spending the few extra quid and go fot the

ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ***Crossfire/Master Edition*** SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-051-CO)

??

Also how will this system stand up to the new DX10? Would it be worth holding out for that and any new cards on the market?

You might want to spend about £150 on a slightly lower quality card that will do you over until half way through next year when you can expect to see cheaper good quality DX10 cards coming out and then spending the £100 you saved from this purchase and what you can save up until then on a DX10 card.

A good card for around that price range would be the

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 GT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-057-HT)

Going for £152 including VAT.

This should play any game perfectly fine for atleast another year. I find it always wise to keep a step behind the latest cards as you'll save a lot of money and still only be about 6 months behind and that's where most games are aiming anyway.

If you are getting a good mobo you could go for an E6300 to save some more cash as it can overclock almost as high as the E6600. The only difference would be the 4mb cache compared to the 2mb on the E6300 but that hasn't made much serious difference in gaming benchmarks.

Why pay more for the E6700? It's practically the exact same as a E6600 just with slightly higher clocks. The E6600 can overclock just as high as it.
