Is it possible to get 1080P through the VGA connector on the Sony X Series LCD's.
I know it says in the manual that 1360x768 is the maximum, but I have seen posts from W series owners saying they have acheived it and according to the Sony site they also are supposed to have the limitation of 1360x768.

I tried simply setting the res to 1920x1080, but although the PC seemed to accept it, the TV switched to an actual res of 1280x720 and the screen scrolled around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ta.

it is possible

apparently you get a message that "this resolution is not supported" but you can clear through it

i think the option on the TV to stop the screen scrolling around doing this is called fill or something

look on www.avforums.com about it.

Cheers, will take a look.
This TV seems to have a hell of a lot more settings to get to grips with than my old Plasma.

the scrolling is because of your graphics card, not the tv. if 1080p isnt working natively you'll need to use something like powerstrip to set it up correctly.

I can select 1920x1080 from the ATI drivers, but the above happens.
I have run Powerstrip and tried to set a Custom Display Profile, but the same thing happens.
Looking on AVForums, it seems that maybe the X series can't do 1080p other than through the HDMI ports. This seems a bit of a wasted opportunity, having a panel that supports 1080p and then limiting it so much on what can use it.

I guess it won't be possible to get 1080P out of an XBox 360 either, as this uses either Component Video or VGA, which will only accept 1080i or 720p respectively on this set. Not such a problem with gaming, but I was considering using one as an upscaling DVD player and getting the HD-DVD drive for it. Seems a bit pointless if I can't get 1080p out of the set-up.

Might opt for a PS3 instead, as not sure I wan't to wait around for the eventual release of the XBox 360 Elite or whatever the new HDMI version is called. It's a shame because I like the range of games available on the Xbox and a number of my mates have got one.

i think it was only possible to get 1080p working on VGA with a 360 on these wasnt it?

something to do with the vga output of the 360 being different to the output of a PC etc????

or was it the W series that didnt officially support 1080p???

As far as I was aware it was only the W series which could get 1080p out of the XBox 360 VGA, due to it using non-standard timings, the X series cant output 1080p through VGA.

Well, I have now paired my TV up with A PS3 and I have to say that Blueray movies in full 1080P are a joy to behold.
At least now I am giving my TV something that befits its magnificence.
