Hi.

Waiting may give you more choice but the new cpu will be more costly, plus ths motherboard will probably need a bios update to take the new cpu.

What is your main use e g gaming if yes what resolotion ?

Can't see the point in going for 11900k, over a 10850k or 10900k for gaming tbh. I'm hoping that people will sell their 10900k's so I can get one to replace my 10700k.
The performance increase would have to be serious to outdo losing 2 cores, and if rumours are to be believed the new chips will be crazy power hungry, thus hotter then the 10900k/10850k.

For what it's worth in my opinion yes. If you were going to buy the new 11900k I would get the new motherboard with it.
But looking at the prices of the new motherboards and the performance gains from the cpu. I just don't see any need to get the 11900k. I'd rather see what they finally bring after that release.
I've always used Intel, and I'm hoping with the changes they've made to the senior staff that they go back and come up with something that truly ups their game. Rather then a rehash and a sub ambient cooling solution. Hope you enjoy your rig whatever you choose to do.
But you're going to be happy with a 10 core cpu that can do 5ghz all core clocks. Pair it with a nice gpu and you're going to be gaming at 1440p happily for a long time

I would stick with 10850k.

Yes the 11900k sports 2 less core and will be on par with 10850k performance, but have 2 additional cores will give you flexibility in other computing usage.

unless you purely game on your machine, i would probably look at 10700kf (£40-50 cheaper than 10850k).

new 11th is not a refresh, it is a brand new architecture but was meant for 10nm node but back ported thus capped at 8core maximum. It is in effect an engineer fudge job. Out of that principle, I would avoid it. But it is intel, they are not your joe blog cowboy builders.

as aforementioned, to take full advantage of 11th gen, you would like to have the new 500 chipset (doesn’t have to be Z boards as the B boards are overclocking unlocked now). But these are expensive.

so the choices is yours. Do you want to spend near to £1000 to get a CPU that can probably do about 5% more frames than the 10850k or 10700k.

also the 11700k will be around £450 I think which is more expensive than 10700k and 10850k. 11900k will be even more stupidly expensive and having the same core as 11700k and I bet they both can be overclocked to the same degrees. So really not much point in buying the 11900k at all.

Given the Avoton fiasco, the Puma fiasco, the ongoing i225 fiasco and the decade of tiny incremental changes we were fed and by your own admission is a bodge because this is the generation where they can’t just go another generation of doing nothing other than adding a +, it kind of feels like they’re on horseback with hats and guns, they could be the cavalry, but it looks a lot like they’re bandits in uniforms, I guess we’ll have to see who gets shot.

I'm tempted to get a 10850k now, just found them on sale for under £380. 960mm of water cooling I'm sure I can find that missing 100mhz

To be honest, if you can pick a 10850k up for £370 its a lot of cpu for the money and overclocks well. Tempting to wait and get pcie 4.0 and a Z590 though.... but its going to cost.

A quick google tells me that
10700kf is @ £295 which means it is £36.8/core
10850k is @ £375 which means it is £37.5/core

10700kf is still better value. It has been discounted since I posted.

all of them pales in zen2 value when 3600 was offering £25/core. This kind of value will probably never return.

not much difference in gaming if you play your games in 1440p

these are my private tests.. but maybe it will help you choose

still need to test 2080 with 10850k and 3070 with 8700k
but its not worth the full price..

I snagged a 10850K for $419 to get out of my 6700K. The difference in FPS was night and day. I'm getting 140 to 170 FPS on Warzone, while streaming it at the same time. I used to get frame skip on my streams with the 6700K and I'd have to limit my FPS to 100, not anymore.

After this thread and after @pc-guy's reasoning, I purchased a new 10900k at 3 pints under £400.
I can happily skip cpus until 2025.
that is not a bad buy tbh. 10core for under £400 you are not going to find that from intel for a couple years to come :)

i am debating if I want to ditch my 3900x for 5800x. I will be losing 4 cores for that matter.

enjoy.

Yeah, I know the AMD's are better at multi tasking, blending etc, but I'm an old fart stuck in my ways. 10 cores at 5ghz will be fine. Does mean someone gets a cheap 10700k from me when I'm all set up.
