Hey guys

I've been hanging around here for a few years and use the site but only just signed up to the forums.

Basically I would really appreciate some advice. I'm computer literate, however the extent of my hardware knowledge is changing out RAM and HDDs [the old IDE ones with the jumpers :S] So I think its about time I started to make my own pc rather than getting a built one. I'm also interested in doing a bit of overclocking, nothing extreme cos i need reliability.

I'm looking for something that will do well in rendering tasks mainly with V-ray therefore cpu and ram is important, graphics editing, and autocad. It will also be used for gaming so a pretty decent graphics setup to power a 24" WS [1920x1200].

This is a quick prelimary list I have made:

Please let me know if there is something blindingly wrong such as the graphics card won't fit or similar =D

At the moment I'm not definate about the mobo, gpu and case so any suggestions are welcome. I know ati have some new stuff coming out at some point. I have heard the Q6600 is great and can be easily overclocked so i'm going with that.

Anyhow any help is much appreciated and i'll probably be sticking around a bit.

Regards

Danny

i will definately consider waiting smyth, maybe upto 2 months if needs be.

thanks for the replies everyone, and so fast too ^^

i'm going look at these and consider them. i'm sure i'll be back with some questions

personally which ram isn't not a huge issue for me, i'm more concerned that i can put in better ram when the price comes down without needing to change the mobo

Got to say thanks again for all the feedback.

I agree on the RAM now HangTime, I realise I can get some better deals and save a lot of money by picking different RAM ~100 quids would be great. I'm also now considering waiting around for the yorkfields, of course when you wait there's always something new on the horizon ;D

I notice you all chose the P182 case, just curious as to why, is it a really good case that you would highly recommend?

BillytheImpaler thank you very much for you input, just wanted to ask one thing, I notice in the second list you go for a gtx sli, would you recommend this setup over the ati card?

Also any opinions on whether you guys would still go for the p35 mobo over the newer x38 or even the x48?

yeah its all very hush around the 9 series release, i haven't found anything definitive. I would consider it dependent upon price, even so I guess its release might bring some 8800 prices down.
