I need a quick step up to keep the pc going until I go for a full upgrade in a few months and just wanted to ask which card is better? Both are agp and the x850 use GDDR3 while the x1600 uses DDR2 if that's any help.

i would probably stick with the X850... i dont think youd notice to much of a gain if any by jumping to the x1600... a jump if any would be to the 7600gt to tide you over...

oh right! i apologize... erm... still the 7600gt... similar price but quicker..., cant render (high)hdr and aa simultaneously, but then again niether can the X850 and i wouldnt recommend it on the x1600...

The 7600GT is more than i'm willing to spend on this setup to be honest. The x850 is second hand a fair bit cheaper, seems like it's the one to go for.

Cheers for the help guys :)

Agreed, 7600 GT all the way, the x1600pro is slower than the 6600 GT, the 7600 GT is faster than the 6800 Ultra. :)

Yeah id have to agree, out of those 2x id get the x850 as well.

What about a second hand 7600GT? ;) Would be worth considering.

But yeah, if X1600Pro and X850 are your only options then definitely get the X850.

The X850 is not a bad card! It will rip Source games apart. It plays NFSMW nicely at 1280x1024. For that price you got excellent value for money.
Glad you got it and not the X1600 which in all honesty is pants. Uses 128bit memory bus for starters :(
