does anybody know any info on price increase costs due to it being new tech with DDR5 and 12th Gen ? seen reports that the 12900k will be more than double the cost of the 11900k .

thinking of building a 3080 build with 11900k even thoough i have high end laptop with 10900k (desktop Cpu) and 2080ti Super . i have that itch to build again having not built a high end water coolling duel loop for 6 years . The build is a custom build from either here or a competitor as im not paying scalper prices for the GPU .

But now im going to wait it out for 9-12 months as i hatr buying and the tech changes instantly ( only found out about the new Gen 3 days ago as been out the loop for a bit)

Custom build would have been

Corsair icue 465x ( to change to Lian-li Rog XL as shop dont have the case i want)
Cpu 11900k
EVGA RTX 3080
Corisair dominator 2x16gb 3200mhz
MSI Z590 Gaming carbon
Corsair 1000x PSU
be quiet cpu cooler

£2428

the above config is without M.2 and windows as i already have that covered
during the quote i wanted 2x16gb Dominator 3466mhz but shop refused to sell it me as they stated they can only put in a max of 3200mhz , surley if its a custom build they can get the 3466mhz with XMP mode ?

If your building now then get a 5900X instead of a 11900K but if you can wait then Alderlake looks promising from the rumours so far and AM5 / Raptorlake is out next year.

Yeah, I'd wait and see what Alder Lake can do as rumoured benchmarks sounds like a decent jump especially in single core performance. Plus buying DDR5 memory would be more future proof than investing in DDR4.

i can wait as its no rush , it also gives me time to do more homework being out the game a few years . last desktop was a binned 5960x . i also want the new Samsung odysset G9 Neo but not at the price its at noW. Also looking at the RTX4080 instead of the 3080 if im going to wait.

But the first question on the 12900k pricing . is ot actually going to be a big jump in price ?

I can't see it costing a grand tbh, maybe £750 if it beats the 5950X as AMD has already set the pricing high for that.

Dont mind paying that for the increase and future proofing . but these rumours of $1300 and even seen $1700 , so thats about £950-£1250.

can some one explain to me why the shop i got quote off refused to set me up with 3466mhz or even 3600mhz on the said cpu and mobo ? they stated it wouldnt work and that intel only allow 3200mhz ? is he a clown ? or have i misised something being out the game as wouldnt the XMP profiles up the mhz ? or is this shop playing it safe ? i do know intel state 3200mhz but thats not the max as thats the stock speed .

I would say it’s the worst time to upgrade right now. Too many goodies coming up. Im holding off until the 4000 series cards come, hopefully the back end of 2022. By that time DDR5 will be more mature, Intel and AMD will be much more of a boost, and i will go with whichever CPU is top dog.

have to say, only just sort of come round to looking at upgrading, and am just thinking exactly that.
