£130 for missing a 1 hour dental appointment

God, how many of you are behaving like complete ****. How would the economy run if everyone took the view that they shouldnt have to pay for something you have agreed to buy.

Oh sorry mate, I commissioned that nice oak table lovingly crafted by you for a month but I have changed my mind. Sorry, forgot about it. What do you think would happen if everyone was such an idiot and mucked around with services.

You forgot about it so talk to them about it, dont be a complete **** about it.

+1

denplan £12 a month , no matter what treatment you have it is free , ive had root canal and im pleased i was private

nice, do they cover orthodontics? I've had to pay £2500 for braces a few years back, glad I did it though.

also I'm not so big on that plan, I bet over it's lifetime you end up paying more than PAYG on th nhs.

Plus we all pay for the NHS anyway through national insurance, so I'm not very keen on the idea of paying for dental care twice.

Does this mean I can tell the dentist when I make an appointment that I'll be charging him for keeping ME waiting if he's running late? His time isn't any more precious than mine. I ****ing doubt it!

A couple of years ago I missed my dental appointment and realised at 5pm on a Friday but it was Monday until I could talk to them and they said I was struck off.
I offered them £25 to keep me on but they said no.
I offered them £50 to keep me on but they said no.
I offered them £75 to keep me on but they said no.
I offered them £100 to keep me on but they said no.
No amount would be able to keep me on their books and I put the phone down feeling rather unhappy because it took my 5 years to find an NHS Dentist.
About 10 minutes later they rang back saying that my appointment wasn't last Friday but 2 weeks away :)

Pay the bill and get a better diary.

If you don't intend to use them again (I wouldn't), they have to prove they have lost £130 from you not attending. I would think it highly unlikely they can. They won't have sat there for an hour waiting.

If you do want to keep going there, try apologising for missing the appointment and state that you beleive £130 is unreasonable and offer them £25. If they don't move to another.

They should pay you for waiting to see them. :p
For years I have advocated that GPs should use one of these

and tell patients to GFO when they reach their allotted consultation time.

That way, there would be no waiting for appointments :)

They can only charge you if you signed something saying you understood that you would get charged if you did'nt show up. If you did'nt sign anything you are under no legal obligation to pay.

Little story but from the opposite direction with a NHS staff member earlier this year.

Corporate Induction starts at 9am and we give 10 mins late time but a woman turned up at 9:50am.
I told her she wouldn't be allowed in and she would have to rearrange the morning session but she could come in the afternoon fro the Statutory Mandatory part.
About 15 minutes later the poo hit the fan and one Division was fighting with the other and my manager stuck up for me all the way.
Apparently she was a Consultant and being taken out of her job for four hours would cost the Trust £5000 and the Divisions wanted to know who would pay for it.
Sounds far fetched but when you add up the amount of Patient Consulting she would get through in 4 hours you can see where the money goes.

A Dentist can easily get through £130 worth of treatment in 1 hour.

As I mentioned earlier otherwise they'd have fit in 10-12 appointments at £14-15 a pop (or some longer ones at £45 or £180 depending on your dentist and current prices).

Is it just me that doesn't visit the dentist?

Not been in 7 years now, and that was to have my wisdom teeth removed.

clean twice a day, and at 29 have zero fillings and no issues.
