14 year old arrested for bringing in homemade clock

If it were to be a bomb, based on current global events, it would be highly more likely to be a Muslim.

The fear-mongering and hype seems to have worked on you just as-well as the Americans!
The reality of the situation is that since 1980 90% of terrorist attacks in America have been committed by Non-Muslims!

Source: The F.B.I

Terrorism Is a Real Threat … But the Threat to Americans on U.S soil from Muslim Terrorists Has Been massively Exaggerated, hence this ridiculous situation this poor kid has found himself in.
I wish schools would teach critical thinking and skepticism more, too many people are gullible and lack the basic ability to think for themselves and question things!!

How do you know the suitcase isn't lined with C4?

Because it's a military only substance and the amount of paperwork you would need to acquire the smallest amounts puts it out of reach of most people, including most public demolition firms who use nitroglycerin. C4 is RDX.

Which is why most home made bombs use ammonium nitrate or tannerite, which is itself ammonium nitrate based.

Seriously?

Must all be bomb experts in here, personally I wouldn't have a clue what an actual bomb looks like and a homemade looking clock in a suitcase would make me somewhat nervous.

Good on them for arresting the idiot and ensuring the situation was dealt with safely.

So you call the police, the police evacuate the building, detain the kid nearby, check the "bomb". Realise it isn't a bomb but a home made clock (corroborating with the engineering teacher "yes, he showed me it this morning"). Then he school and police apologise to the kid and everything goes back to normal.

Instead kid gets chucked into jail, released and then suspended.

Remember kids, never show how intelligent or free thinking you are, it scares people!

Considering the 'bombs' being discussed here are fictional based ones, I'm someone who's seen actual IEDs (imitation ones that is) and what this kid has made is certainly nothing like what a homemade bomb looks like - this kid's been accused of making a homemade explosive device, in case some of you hadn't clued up on that. Bombs are a tad more sophisticated than just a few wires on a circuitboard plonked in a suitcase, IEDs are not bombs, hence the lack of sophistication.

I'm no bomb expert, but I sure as hell could say this is far from suspicious. I hope the lad doesn't suffer any PTSD or any other issues because of this episode.

Also more places have stepped up offering him visits, such as Facebook too.

"He said his engineering teacher had congratulated him but advised him "not to show any other teachers"."

So if the teacher thought there may be a problem, why didn't he do the sensible thing and hold onto it for the rest of the day and ask the boy to collect it at home time?

It beeped whilst it was in his bag and the female teacher asked what it was. What's more suspicious:

a) Pulling out your homemade clock, which your engineering teacher had already seen knowing it's just a clock so could easily confirm there is no threat; or

b) Leave it in your bag and say "Nothing, Miss".

I'm by no means a genius, but I know that the latter would definitely raise suspicion...

I thought now after the investigation he is been considered at been charged with making a hoax bomb?

To all those bomb experts on gd, if this is so obviously a clock how can he be charged with making a hoax bomb?

I suspect that if it looks like a bomb to 99% of people then that constitutes making a hoax bomb.

one of the many joys of growing up in norn iron sadly

The one that got me was I walked past the bomb that flattened Moira police station in 1998 about 30 minutes before it went off. Was out doing the underage drinking thing in the park. My house was at the other end of the town from the park. Was ****** weather so walked home early. I would usually be walking past around when it went off, to get in before 12 o clock. My mates who I'd been out with were still at the other end of the town when it went up. Next to no warning. Normally we'd have all been walking past to go to the garage just a few yards from the police station to get munchies before staggering home.

Every time I see a short wheel base Mitsibushi Shogun (first gen) parked up it's instant panic.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's how democracy works!... Thus proving democracy is not necessarily always the best thing :(

Sorry to ask, but what's GD? Seen it around a few times and can't think as to what it is!

I'd imagine you already know this, but you've evidently got PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) due to the incident, and imaginably so.

Councilling/Therapy, and even just talking about it will help. I'm not a psychologist though, though I've got my own mental issues with depression to deal with yet don't do as I've just advised :D

cause turning up with 5 kitchen roll tubes painted red with a big pieces of black string could go for that charge too?

Obviously a stupid thing to have happened... but wonder if the exact same scenario would have happened if it was a white kid.

I'm sure it would have and it would never have been reported...

The people who are saying "well it looks like a bomb so he deserved it" are totally missing the point.

If the teachers genuinely thought that it was a bomb, the school would have been evacuated. The fact that it wasn't goes to show how ridiculous the whole situation and that he has been mistreated by the police and the school.

Why is this all over the news?

Why does anyone even care?

It's not even an issue, he's not being charged is he? misunderstanding lets move on with our lives. Oh wait he's brown and muslim? HOLY COW STOP THE SHOW EVERYONE FRONT PAGE NEWS1!!!!!

You see white kids all the time arrested for stuff like this? threats to president that are obvious trolls, kids bringing in fake guns to school. People are arrested all the time for stupid things.

WHO CARES
