14 year old boy kills mum with hammer

He went to a school not that far from me that have children of family friends there, they all claim he was pretty messed up so not sure how it got to this.

I agree that in the UK today as soon as someone does something terrible its a case of:

1. He/she must be ill
2. Had a tough childhood
3. Grew up in tough neighbourhood
4. There was "nothing to do" and they were "bored"
5. It has to be a mental issue
6. Bad parenting
7. Grand Theft Auto
8. Call of Duty

Seems its no-ones fault ever. This asswipe killed his own mother, the human who carried him for 9 months. Yet he will be out in 16 years to live HIS life. 16...SIXTEEN years for this. Its like being slapped with a feather-duster. Disgusting.

Good God.....can't even begin to imagine the reasons for him doing such a thing...just awful.

See my edit above.

There's a guy who posted earlier in the thread who actually knew him. He seemed to think he was fine...

That would be me, but i never met Dan (not that i remember) i am friends with is dad. His dad doted on him and pretty much gave him everything he wanted, technology-wise at least. He spoilt his kids.
I worry for Dominic, Dan's younger brother, how will he reconcile that his big brother killed his mum while he slept.

It was last Easter Monday when it happened. And i only learned about it all last night on the news.
I remember Dan having to leave his private school and moving to Redhill. Don't remember his dad having anything really negative to say about it though. But according to the news Dan heavily resented the house and school move. They lived across the road from where i work now.

So true... sigh.

Congratulations to the soft goody 2 shoe PC brigade. Because of lack of discipline in schools and because you don't let parents discipline their own kids .. smacking ... then this is the monster you created. Also due to our soft soft justice system , this fella will be free in less than 16 years so he will have 40 years of freedom laughing at you. Well done PC people.

lol

I'm a realist.

I would have to disagree.

Guys, i know some of this will fall on deaf ears, and yes, i know it's GD, but i'd really appreciate (Seeing as i started the thread) that posts aren't too controversially provocative just for the sake of causing a reaction.
The father is a friend of mine and i can't even begin to imagine what he's going through. Your honest opinions and input are welcome, stupid comments won't help.
Just spoken to the dad, he seems ok, taking it a day at a time. Said they'd had a long time to prepare for the news break yesterday, but said it didn't make it easier. He's now just trying to to protect his other kids from unwanted publicity or news.

Sounds like a terrible thing to deal with :(

The reporters will be out for blood, they'll check the other kids to see if they are as distrubed as this boy was

I feel really sorry for the rest of the family in this case and I really do hope that they are not hounded by the press after this coming out.

The boy who done it was 14 at the time and no matter what people say, there has to be something wrong with your head if you do something as horrible as this at 14 years old.

It's a very sad story all round.

I'm sure that a lot of people with Mental Illness'es don't feel the need to Kill there mother and burn the house down. Or murder 17 civilians.
