14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh"

Well the 14900K is going to be pointless in a way if a 14900KS follows shortly after.

Does anyone know if the whole product stack will be Raptor Lake refresh or a split Alderlake/Raptorlake like the 13th gen as their could be some good buys/upgrades lower down the stack.

You could argue every CPU is pointless, as there'll always be a replacement coming at a later date. Whether it's 3 months of 12 months between releases, it's inevitably going to be superseded. Then it's just bragging rights "I had top CPU for 12 whole months" - who cares? :D

Anyhow, no rumours of a 14900KS so far. So probably just the 14900k until Arrow Lake with it's new naming scheme (no 15th gen).

Intel Core i9-14900K 6.0 GHz ES CPU shows up in first CPU-Z test, 8-10% faster than Core i9-13900K

This is surprising - the improvement over 13900K and KS look too large to explain. This would only make sense if the 14900k has much lower voltage, or improved thermals, enabling it to sustain 6Ghz for longer.

Looking forward to official reviews and of course the power consumption testing!

Intel 14th Gen Core i9-14900K, i7-14700K and i5-14600K reportedly launches October 17th

Maybe they'll be available soon after. For a refresh I don't know why they'd want to drag it out any longer. Must have plenty of stock ready to be shipped surely

Depends how highly binned these are. We've seen a QVL with only 1.35v needed for 6Ghz boost - which is an incredibly highly binned CPU.

Intel confirms 2024-2025 client CPU lineup: Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake and Panther Lake

I'm expecting big IPC and performance per watt improvements from Arrow Lake, good that it's on track for (early?) 2024 release. It'll need to be outstanding to compete with Zen5.

Why do they like lakes so much? You’d think they would come up with more distinctive / less confusing code names.

Is the thread title wrong? Isn’t 14th gen Meteor Lake and 15th gen Arrow Lake?

Is it correct Meteor Lake won’t support Thunderbolt 5? Seems an oversight not to include it?

Nope, thread title is correct. 14th gen is raptor lake refresh. Next gen is Arrow Lake, which will not use the "15th" gen naming scheme, that's being retired.

I've clearly not been keeping up, I thought the next launch that was expected was for the Raptor Lake refresh, has that been dropped in favour of Meteor Lake? And is Meteor Lake a new architecture or will that be Arrow Lake?

With the addition of AI to the next release of Win11 and the possible launch of Win12 next year the inclusion of a Neural Processing Unit could be interesting with future AI applications.

Meteor Lake laptop only, cancelled for desktop. Desktop gets very boring Raptor Lake refresh and has to wait for early 2024 for Arrow Lake next gen (on new socket, LGA-1851).

Bit of a pain as I'm going to be building a new gaming rig in time for the Steam phasing out Windows 7 support, so I'll probably buy a 14th gen CPU rather than wait for 2024.

I'd just install W10/11 on whatever hardware you have temporarily, as both Zen5 and Arrow Lake (LGA-1851 brand new platform) are major new architectures and have many improvements.

Intel says part of the 14th gen desktop lineup will contain meteor lake CPUs

So this confirms one of the earlier leaks which I haven't seen repeated recently, that lower end 14th gen chips will probably be meteor lake and the high end 14th gen will be Raptor lake refresh

Not the least bit confusing for the end user :D

So........RL refresh being the last of the 1700 socket CPU's and AL being the next socket that will also bring the Z890 boards for the desktop user...?

Right(ish).......?

Not much point asking when the AL boards and CPU's are expected..?

Arrowlake is due early 2024 - I think Intel will want to get it out the door ASAP as 14th gen reviews will be so bad. That's the one I'd recommend people wait for if they insist on Intel. Brand new platform, CPU cores on TSMC's 3nm node, no legacy DDR4 controller taking up die space - should be a monster.

LGA1700 is dead and IMO should only be considered when getting really cheap deals 2nd hand. This includes 14900k, which is just a 13900KS in sheep's clothing.

Also potential 14900k buyers, remember that you've buying the "best" for what will be a few short months, then Arrow Lake/Zen5 will significantly outperform it in every way possible.

They'd be releasing Arrow Lake CPUs right after the 14th generation if that were true.

Arrow Lake seems to be scheduled to go up against Zen 5 CPUs in Q4 2024 (makes sense I think).

I don't think Intel has a problem when it comes to performance, they do well in a lot of benchmarks like CPUz (particularly single thread).

14th gen is not a new CPU - it's just Raptor Lake with + 200Mhz for the i9. It'll do badly in reviews, so Intel will be keen to get Arrow Lake out very, very soon IMO.

me too, 6700k needs to go, but it sounds like it'll be worth the wait.

need to get something built before China attacks Taiwan
Waiting for the Arrow Lake LGA1851 platform is definitely worth it, 13th gen = 14th gen, both exactly the same architecture and both on dead end platform.

If you can't wait, AM5 and Zen4X3D is a fantastic choice right now for gaming.

Looks like Lunar Lake will NOT be seen on desktop, same as Meteor Lake:

The company has made it explicitly clear that Lunar Lake is not intended to serve as a high-end gaming architecture. Instead, it is slated for launch for low-power devices, and is likely to be released alongside or after Arrow Lake, which is poised to replace the Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake lineup.

Intel reportedly planning Arrow Lake Refresh featuring 8P+32E cores for 2025 debut

So current rumours are, Arrow Lake Q4(!) 2024, 24 core 8P&24C, with 25% IPC increase on a single thread.

Arrow Lake refresh with 40 core (8P, 32E) in second half of 2025.

25% IPC would be amazing, at the same or less power draw.
