Unfortunately, for the pro angler, he got busted.

One of the judges of the competition recognised the fish.

It had been thieved from the aquarium  (god know's how he sneaked a rod and tackle in, assuming thats how it was caught?)

Channel News reporters are excellent.

Opening paragraph:

Matthew Andrew Clark, 29 is in court today with one charge of theft and one of making false representation whilst taking part in the bass club competition.

Penultimate paragraph:

Officers say they are looking into allegations of theft and fraud, and while no one has been charged yet they do have one man in custody.

Spot the inconsistency...

It seems as if he just took the bait, £800 is a good catch. It's just a question of if the police are going to go any deeper and investigate all the lines of inquiry they have.

Good cod, what a loser. That's not the time or the plaice to be caught hook line and sinker. I guess he wasn't in tuna with the possibility of being rumbled and now probably feels a bit koi. Haddock he thought about it properly he might have got away with it, now he'll just have to wait for the seal of approval from the court ruling given that he's made a rod for his own back.

What do i win?

£800 for 1st plaice isn't too bad, but the guy in second must be pretty bass'd off.

No trout the guy's feeling a bit carp after being caught, but it's probably a bit too late to be floundering around for excuses now.

Fishy pun wouldn't relate to *****'s would it?

winner :p

here, you earned it

How does he catch the fish though, does he tie it to his line then pretend hes pulling it in?

I cant see how he would do this in a competition there are always judges around...?

There probably weren't any judges around. Here in Jersey (so probably the same in Guernsey), fishing contests are generally operated on the basis of trust. Basically you go to wherever you wish around the coast of the island, land what you can then report back to central weighing stations with your catch.
