I boot up my PC running XP Pro SP2 and everything is fine until I start Firefox. I get the BSOD and the PC restarts. It then boots back in and everything is fine. I then can use Firefox for hours on end and everything is fine. I can't figure out for the life of me why it need to fail first before working. I tried re-installing Windows, Firefox, and most programs I have, but it still happens. It's not a big deal, but I would rather not have it happen. IE7, doesn't do it but I prefer to use FF.

Goto

System Properties > advanced tab > startup and recovery settings > uncheck restart on system failure.

That should allow you to see the error code before it restarts.

It isn't directly FF, so odds are Opera would make it BSOD too...

First off, try the-edmeister's post here - if nothing else, it'll let you get the error that's making the machine BSOD.

Over and above the usual Prime95 and memtest, it might worth checking what graphics drivers you're using.

probably bad ram if its happened after a format (you did format, and not just reinstall windows yeah?)

run memtest (google it, and burn the iso to disc then boot from it)

Install Fx 2 by using log-in as Admin that you need to press F8 during boot up Windows that how it work - once you done then reboot it and then you will find this Fx2 as normal web browser - I dont have problems in Firefox running under Vista x64.

I found that FF was making my system freeze for 2 secs then go back to normal lol uninstalled and all seems fine.
