15k - Semi 'posh' car?

Oh, and OP - if you are going to look at the 3 Series Saloon make sure it's a 58 plate or newer. Thats when the facelifted model with much improved iDrive system (Hard drive for music and maps, higher resolution screen with better interface) and improved exterior styling was launched. The prefacelift one is beginning to look like a cheap car these days (Which it is, given it starts fom £5k for a tatty one now) whereas the LCI still looks pretty good.

Having owned a 06 320D just after a 55' 525D, then a 59 330D and now back to a 06 320D, i really don't see what you're saying, the interior is better but i actually don't have a preference to the looks of the 06 or the 59, found them both nice looking. I find the new 3 series horrible looking. Because you say it looks that way to you dosen't mean its the same for everyone. I will be getting a new shape 5 series at some point in the next 2yrs or so though.

No personal insults.

From his reckoning the Fusion is just a 'bigger' Fiesta because its based on the same chassis. The Saab 9-3 is just a Vectra. The Mito is just a Punto. An Abarth is just a Fiat.

He has the point though that the A4 looks a lot like the A5, more so than a Saab to a Vectra.

I mean...look at those interior shots.

Yes or No. Do they not look identical to you?

Yes or No?

What was the issue?

Probably me. Traction was very intrusive, and couldn't get the hang of the gearbox.

I was thinking of trying one for a long weekend. I remember the M3 being just as much as a handful when I first got it, took a while to get the EDC/Throttle etc. set up. Didn't help that it was all set on 'stun' when I picked it up.

Casually chatting to a Merc dealer they said I could rent one for a weekend with that coming off the purchase price - that seemed fairly reasonable. I.e. pay for the rental, and if I buy the car they'd accept that as part of the payment toward the car.

then a 59 330D and now back to a 06 320D, i really don't see what you're saying,

Jesus, what a step down, in both the looks department and engine department. I'm sorry, but the E90 pre-LCI is an ugly looking car from the front. It is a trainwreck of sharp edges. The LCI however makes the E90 look how it always should have done - the LCI looks fantastic. Most of the time, when BMW do a facelift/LCI to a model, it features very subtle changes like slightly smoothed out headlights, or LED taillights and different shaped wing mirrors etc etc - however this, thankfully, went out of the window when the LCI'd the E90.

I tell you, if i had bought a 08 E90, then 6 months later they bought out the LCI i would have been raging.

@MacRS4 Not just you mate, on a wet road you can forget about a quick merge into traffic, ive almost binned mine twice from the ESP cutting in halfway onto a roundabout.

Honestly though i find new audi's a little chavvy, seems like everyone under 30 with abit of cash has one with "sport" accessories complimented by a 2 litre 4 pot. I'd get a Merc or a BMW, one is classier the other drives better.

The 525D was sold to clear money for other ventures, the 06 320D came about when i made a killing in some investments and needed a big mileage economic ride, then i got the 330D when i decided to change, that got wrote off. I was recently given this present 06 320D for free, i'll use it for the time being then eventually get a newish 5 series as i quite like those, big and petrol this time.

However, as for the 'big' stepdown in engine, dosen't really matter when avg speed is 17mph and i use the North Circ everyday, i miss nothing, to be fair the 320d does not feel vastly different than the 330d, of course the 330 is more powerful but in day to day driving i don't see it, little rougher and tractorish but nothing major for the journeys i do, maybe i'm not so bothered about cars, just metal boxes that depreciate and milk your money.. i don't consider BMW anything special tbh as having owned 5 over the yrs, don't see why people get worked up over them.

Once again though, its my opinion and i'm not wrong as thats how i see it in regards to the looks, you see a major diff, i don't and you can't tell me how to feel about a certain thing can you? :D

Im sure it must be my imagination but I always though the A5 was a larger car compared to the A4. In know it sits on the A4 base but thought the A5 was more XF and 5 series size.

Nothing to back that up other than seeing them parked up so it was just a guess.

Oh come off it, my first post in this thread was genuine advice fitting your breif given in good faith. Even after you've started to fly off the handle I was still posting information about the cars you've indicated you are interested in.

Actually thats exactly what a Fusion is.

The Saab 9-3 is just a Vectra. The Mito is just a Punto. An Abarth is just a Fiat.

These are more complex - they are platform sharing ventures rather than the 'same car'. There are lots of similiarities and shared components but it's not the same as the situation with an A4 and an A5. The A5 is an A4 Coupe, it really is that simple.

The previous A4 Cabriolet illustrates the point entirely. The last gen A4 had a Cabriolet. It was called A4 Cabriolet. I'm sure even you wouldnt dispute it was an A4. This time around there is an A5 Cab instead. But the relationship to the saloon is the same - infact its even closer this time as the previous A4 Cab had a slightly different interior. Yet because they stuck '5' on the back instead of '4' we end up with this silly debate where you dispute fact? I don't get it.

To clarify - preferring the look of an A5 is totally understandable. Heck it's why it exists! Just don't think it's something more than a 2 door A4 becuase it isn't.

Lol at all the scrubs in this thread who think that by having less doors their car will look a million times better.

No, your still driving a company car looking boring mobile, no one cares.

I have had it with you and your facts keyboard warrior.

Not really sure how you 'don't get what I am saying' given thats a factual list of changes between the LCI and pre LCI 3 Series. The changes were:

a) Revised front end design with kidney grill moved to bumper and new bonnet
b) Revised front and rear bumpers
c) Revised front and rear light clusters
d) CIC HDD based iDrive with revised iDrive controller
e) Addition of 'All' button to climate control.
f) Addition of LED indicators
h) Addition of cheap plastic sunblinds, thanks for that one BMW

Thats what changed - the look of the E90 was changed to try and give it similar design language to the newer stuff they've since launched.

I get the feeling I could say the sky was blue in this thread and still somebody would argue with me about it :D

You wouldn't have it any other way? :)

Posh is not an Audi or a BMW. They are for the wannabe generation in their North Face gilet and out of town shopping.

I live very close to a private school and "Posh" would appear to be a 15 year old Subaru Legacy that hasn't seen a bucket and sponge since 2003. :)
