16 or 32GB Modules >3600Mhz - Any point?

Hi all - I'm just about to purchase a new AM4 motherboard that supports upto 4400Mhz DDR4

As well as gaming, I have requirements for photoshop (macro stacking) and running multiple VMs in a lab, so would prefer to have either 64GB or 128GB (the boards max) available to use.

The question is, are there any modules that are >3600Mhz and are either 16GB or 32GB per stick - or should I not overly worry about RAM speed as it would make NO real world difference to me.

ignoring cost gradients, what are the thoughts.??

What is that?? new to me

It's the make and model of the chips used in the RAM sticks, they work really well with Ryzen CPUs and generally overclock well

3200 that can run at 3600 (not guaranteed), or 3600. For your use, more RAM will bring more benefits than anything faster than 3600.

Although someone said C18 is slow? are there alternatives for 32GB sticks @ 3600Mhz

I'm no expert, but C18 usually means it won't be B-die.

3600 C16 is what you should be looking at. You will also notice the price difference.

Only 16-16-16 kits are guaranteed B-die.
C16s with looser following timings can be something else.
Price is the best indicator for that.

Would I even notice C18 vs C16? -- I cannot find any 3600Mhz 32GB modules that are C16

In fact come to think of it -- is C16 vs C18 more important than 3200Mhz vs 3600Mhz?

You're not looking at high enough prices.For example G.Skill has multiple 3600MHz 16-16-16 kits, they just cost literal arm and leg. 16-19-19 kits are mid way.

Latencies are measured in clock cycles, so clock speed affects to actual absolute latency time. 3600MHz CL18 has same DIMM's internal CAS latency as 3200MHz CL16. (10 ns)
Expensive B-die 3200MHz CL14 would again beat it clearly. (~8.75 ns)
Also beating 3600MHz CL16 (~8.89 ns) slightly.
Following latencies behave similarly.
So pretty high level for 3600MHz 16-18-18 kits loose to that expensive 3200MHz 14-14-14.

Though in case of Ryzen another factor is memory bus speed affecting to speed of CPU's internal InfinityFabric bus.
Hence 3600MHz CL16 has similar overall access latency than 3200MHz CL14.

still cant find 2x32Gb C16 @ 3600Mhz, but will keep looking, or consider OC’ing 3200’s

I'm in the same boat. Currently, building a Ryzen 3950X system and need at least 64GB.
The new Crucial Ballistix range look great, and are reasonably priced but no stock anywhere.

Hi fatfurrycat, I didnt im afraid and ended up going for the 4x32GB Vengeance PRO RGB to give the 128GB I wanted for some VMs for my lab

Eitherway, it sounds like @Jamin280672 sorted you out - I think I paid about £730 or so for the 128GB, but would have to look it up
