Just looked up that story. As a dad of a daughter of a similar age I wish I hadn't. Poor girl. It makes me so ******* angry.

Hang on.... so some kid gets bullied which happens alllllll the time. And now people are donating large sums of money? is it just me or does that just strike others as weird?

I saw video couple months back some lads laying into a kid with knuckle dusters on (Looked around same age as Syrian kid).... did that make national news? nope.

Also the waterboarding statement is absolutely pathetic and a gross misuse of the word. People need to go on youtube and see what waterboarding actually looks like.....

Well it’s to be expected due to how race and religion is shown on the media. How when something bad has occurred, it’s used as a main story headline.

Bottom line is, Money. Whatever can be used to sell, use it. Whatever can be cut to save it, cut it.

It’s all nice and well seeing the media give this attention but I do feel that the cases which haven’t been recorded on a phone or have been swept under the carpet, how many of these there are?

This shouldn’t be happening full stop. Education starts at home, then school. The school should have known what was happening it’s not like kids keep it quiet these days due to social media, yet for how long it’s taken I feel the school has failed massively in this respect.

Still, no one cares as it’s all about that paycheck. You can take our government for an example of this.
 
kids get bullied everyday at school don't see why the guy needs many thousands of pounds.

from the video it's not even bad, kids were getting the literal poop kicked out of them when I was school age.

I was verbally bullied almost every day for my first year of secondary school.
Got punched a few times for answering back instead of ignoring them.

OMG... Because this is VIDEO'd, how many times does it need to be explained?

It's REALLY simple. When people can see something as clear as day, without it being just some article in the news or hearsay, it tends to light fires under things, now theres a chance that this could still be fake considering the US homeless man/couple trio fraud, but the kid has a broken arm and his sister almost killed herself.

So i'm going to just believe it on the grounds that Huddersfield and this particularly ****** school is probably not a great place anymore.

If every crime and assault was video'd, the police would have such an easy time it'd be like clockwork to get people prosecuted and the government would have no choice but to do something about the seemingly violent wave of idiots... but they aren't even in today's lovely camera-ridden world, almost none of it is captured and almost none of it is dealt with.

I'm glad this episode of immigrant bashing has annoyed the right-wing at least, frothing at the mouth in this thread over the money rather than the violence, is just sad, dementing and cruel.

I can't seem to copy & paste from my Facebook feed (seriously FB/Android/Samsung?) where a letter, supposedly from solicitors representing the Syrian family explains they are trying to raise funds to help them move from Huddersfield and launch a prosecution against the school. The letter states the boy's sister - also being systematically bullied with the school doing nothing to prevent it - hid in the toilets, broke the glass in her spectacles and slashed her wrists because the bullying was so bad.
 
Nothing really exceptional, it is horrific of course, but bullying is par the course sadly. In this instance it just went Viral is all hence the exceptional funds and donations. Happens with plenty of stuff that gets blown up, that homeless man case in the states blew up and got $400k, the whole Macann missing child was reported so much, how many missing child cases get even a fraction of the amount of money dedicated to that case and so on. Will be something new in a weeks time getting blown up, going viral and donations etc.

In this case good on the kid and family I say. Sure we can say all those people being bullied why can't they get anything, well it sucks, not the way the world works, but in this instance am cool with them getting the money and no one is holding a gun to the people donating. Also sad about the girl in the family if true, but sadly I expect not entirely unique.

Lets face it, schools have been historically **** at tackling bullying.
This shouldnt be isolated to just this one, but maybe this will encourage schools to look at how they tackle 'petty' issues like this more responsibly.

Parents should also be strongly encouraging their children to get involved in self defense classes. Judo, boxing whatever.
Half the issue here is that the bullys are spotting the weak kids and preying on them, and children in this situation absolutely need to be given the toolset on how to deal with this.
