hi guys

with the new BF2042 and other (next gen) games coming out soon i was wondering if its worth upgrading my gpu.

i have a 1660 super at the mo and im not sure if the price of the current 3060ti is worth the upgrade.

I realise all stock of 3*** series cards is like rocking horse poop but i think its more likely to get hold of a 3060 than 3080/3090.

any thoughts?

cheers

Ted.

I tend to use techpowerup's "relative performance" charts for this sort of comparison. It's an aggregated measure taken from many games and averaged, and so it's accuracy is varied for each game. Some googling will reveal these if you're overly concerned about a particular game or comparing more directly between two competing cards, however for the broad strokes it's safe to use this as a handy barometer.

Going from this graph you can expect double the performance, although I'm not 100% if that's simply based on maximum FPS or includes metrics such as 1%/0.1% lows. In almost all games/systems the lowest FPS will be down to CPU maxing out so it's probably not relevant anyway for making broad comparisons between cards.

Comparisons based on the 3060ti FE:

Since you already have a GPU so are not in a desperate situation then why not try for a founders edition card.

3060ti FE @£369
3070FE @£469
3070ti FE @529
3080FE @649

Anyone of these would be huge upgrade while also being great value for money in the current climate.

thanks guys for the info. i did look at some comparisons but I value this forums input with real opinions as much as anything.

i have the 1660 super 6gb so it does look like it would be a fairly decent bump up, especially with newer games which require even more horsepower.

i can sell my 1660 second hand to claw back some of the £££ too i guess.

now, if only somewhere had cards in stock at a half reasonable price point :)

i googled FE , so thats nvidias own cards :)

where the hell are you getting them for 369?!?! :) PM me if you get a mo?

thanks

BF2042 doesn't get released until nearly the end of next month.

Wait until you buy a game that your 1660 super struggles with and then upgrade. Or if
it's stuggling now, then upgrade now. I don't see the point in upgrading now in case it struggles later on.

yeh true, the beta is out V soon so ill probably end up playing that anyway before i manage to get hold of a new card.

only thing i didnt want to do was wait, and then the stock situation be even worse coming up to xmas. I read something only this morning that said rumours are the nvidia supply will be 30% less over the next few months than theyd hoped for.

it's overpriced but given the current marker that is the going rate.

Personally I would keep your current card at those prices but if I had to choose a 3060ti I would be choosing this one

Zotac are okay. But they are cheap no frills cards. They do the job but tend to have noisy fans, cheaper parts, etc. Their warranty is good but no idea how good their customer support is to make use of it no point having a 5 year warranty if their RMA is terrible

you are correct i missed that , at the moment i run 1080p because my monitor doesnt go any higher. not massively fussed about 4k, id rather better fps and lower res.

Personally I would stick with your current card.

I run battlefield on low. I can run it on ultra no problems at 1440p but I have a 240hz screen and I want maximum fps. Plus the game plays better competitively on low. Using ultra works against you in the game and it's not as if you can really appreciate the difference when you are constantly in engagements or moving around at high speeds looking for targets.

I mean if you were playing a single player game like assassins creed, tomb raider or cyberpunk, you want to run it on ultra. in a competitive online fps you want to run low.

Watch that video and you will see the settings he runs and he's a professional streamer / youtube video maker. Everything is turned off and everything is on low
