£185 budget - Motherboard, GFX Card & CPU

Is it do-able?

I'm looking for:

  • A cheap budget board (£50 max) needs pci-e, 4 dimm slots etc.
  • AMD processor clocking 2.0ghz+
  • Video card that will run oblivion on low-medium settings

All reccomendations welcome and really appreciated. I will give more details if you wish.

I've a 3200 and a 6600GT 128 and it makes Obliv hard
 
He could get a sempron on am2. It sounds like he already has RAM though and I think you need DDR2 for am2?

Oblivion is a pretty demanding game. They recommend a 6800gt or above for acceptable performance.

If you don't know, then you shouldnt give advice like that.

Would you like to pay for the 6600 if it doesnt play it well enough?...
 
I've had a 6600GT, it couldnt cope with BF2 very well, and i've got Oblivion installed on the current system, and i must say i honesty don't believe you could play it on a 6600GT at decent settings. It may be playable but it'll look like crap.

If you wanna play demanding games, buy a better card..... if you can afford new games, you can afford to save a little extra, and it'll be worth it.
 
the 7600GT is being ported to AGP. the best thing to do in my honest opinion would be to save up some bucks and get it. its worth it in the end..

I personally thought the 6600GT coped fine with BF2 (this is at medium settings at 1280x1024).

My friend could run Oblivion at 1024x768 with low to medium settings with a 6600GT, maybe not pretty but playable.

Edit: Also low-medium settings Oblivion is what the OP wants :)
 
Ok, i'm just saying....... i didnt rate the 6600GT as being a good card, even with a little clock it seemed gutless compared to something even like an x800gto which is not that expensive.
 
my oblivion runs in medium quality, 1024*768, 4x AA
with an
MSI K8N
A64 3000+
R9800Pro

and it runs quite well too, not particularly jumpy.. also runs half life 2 - episode 1 reallly rather well, considering the graphics card is past it.

How much RAM do you have?

I think I might get an x800gto. I was gonna get it, but then it disapeared from ocuk.
