Morning chaps,

Call this a bit of a noob question but does a display device capable of 1920 x 1080p automatically mean it's a 1080p display?

Also, does using the diferent connection cables make a difference to the display quality (like HDMI cables on a home TV)?

This is one of few areas I must confess to have ZERO knowledge!

Thanks,

AdamN.

basically, 1920 x 1080 is 1080p. DVI and HDMI output the same picture, but DVI CANNOT carry audio whereas HDMI can. So if your using a television, then your going to want HDMI from a sky box etc. so it outputs sound :)

The no-sound isn't a limitation of the cable but rarely any devices support sound over DVI.
HDMI->DVI->HDMI will work fine with all devices.
