1984 Rover 3500 MK2

Lovely lovely cars but unless it's really been looked after it will be a complete shed. They rot like there is no tomorrow due to Rover leaving the bodies outside after priming.

There are lots of specialist owners forums for that car. You are best off asking on those.

Still one of my all time favorite cars when in MK2 Efi Vitesse guise.

Ugly depending who you talk to. Myself, I don't like em - prefer the P5B or P6 :D. Best get your pipe and slippers, though.

Not very fast or good handling, but have the potential to be if you plough a few grand into them. The 3.5 will make between ~125-160HP depending on specification (but really it's the torque it puts out that makes it entertaining to drive).

Rust like a bar steward, but seeing as you're in somewhere relatively dry (I think?) shouldn't be a problem. Quite a thing to see a manual one!

That's an injected one, so you shouldn't have many foibles. They do tend to be built poorly, but if it's still around and rollin' today it's generally a good sign. You'll know if you got a 'wednesday' car :) I swear they built them by just throwing bits of trim at them :o

What would the car in that ad be like just at a guess? Would it be a shed?

The pipe and slippers will be the first thing i get if i buy a rover :p

Car in the ad - difficult to tell from those photos - but as it's white spotting corrosion shouldn't be a problem (I would know - previous car was white :D )

Those arches could be hiding a lot though - worth prodding about.

You'd have to go and look! :D Sounds like it needs a little TLC from the advert mind :)

He's listed the usual areas that they go, the box is already in need of a rebuild, im guessing from the description the camshaft will need doing soon, you will probably find corrosion around the suspension points, look out for the headlining dropping, make sure the electrics work.....would make a nice project but once they start rusting they turn into a bit of work
Saying that I still wish I had mine, if only I could find the pics on my webspace :(

Found it :D

I can't help thinking its a really bad choice of car for you.

It's a car for true enthusiasts now, nearing classic status. Never that well built, so it needs care and attention to keep running.

Now, this is fine here, but they never sold many in Australia so you could find keeping it going to be a lot of hassle.

the man speaks the truth !!

although i always loved that shape rover, i have found memories of it as a kid, with my dad driving the family to blackpool in it

although when i move to Australia in June, i can see a nice honda coming my way

Interestingly enough, Australia has quite a good selection of Rover specialists, its quite normal for people to import some of the harder to get bits from there to here, albeit more the engine/gearbox/suspension/brakes side of things, not too sure on bodypanels

The twin plenum Vittesse was nearer 200bhp I thought?

Twin Plenums made 190BHP yes, but to be honest - a Carter AFB on a phenolic spacer will give you more power for half the complication..

I think the twin plenums are a bit of a goose chase - rare & sought after but not actually really that great.
