I didn't game at that res when I bought my laptop 6 years ago!
I see my brother playing on ps3/xbox360 on his Vieira tv often....it doesn't look anywhere near as good as some games on my pc like Witcher 2/Arkham Asylum/Rage/Metro 2033/Shogun 2 etc...also the framerates are bad in some of the games on consoles.

I'm building a similar or perhaps superior machine for £610 (on current prices) in December which will play all games on high settings at 1920 x 1080 - how the flip did the cost get to £1,000 with such an abysmal resolution? I even have hopes the total price will drop to under £600 by then.

Haha cant believe this thread. Why not play some good looking games if graphics is what you want. Any of the stalker series with the full complete mod will look stunning, there's Company of heroes if your into RTS games which looks amazing considering its age. Also battlefield 3 looks pretty good, especially compared to the consoles. Also forgot to mention GTA 4 with the enb mod. Here's someone else's pics I took from another thread.

you must have something wrong with your eyes or something, because i use the same 26" 720p monitor for my xbox and the PC in my sig, and the PC blows the xbox out of the water. the only thing that comes close to PC graphics is forza 4, but thats only when you dont look at the scenery

well what do you expect your graphics to be like at that low resolution???
Even an xbox runs at higher resolution than that....
People spend that kind of money on a pc for the pure power and display abilities.. You spent 1K and didnt bother putting the pc to its full potential...
A Gtx graphics card... it cost you anything from £100 to £250 (example for average costs), and your running it at 1366x768. a cheap £10 second hand graphics card that was made in the early 90's can run that piece of cake.....
How can anyone say a pc is the same as a console graphics wise.. the most a console can give out is Native 720p... it can only upscale to 1080p, which is nowhere near as good, But Natively, just 720p... A pc in the other hand can run twice HD, 1600p, which is like HHHHHHD.....
a few good reasons why pc blows any console to stink....
Upgradeability... you can upgrade pc's to perform faster as newer hardware gets released. the closest you can get to that with a console, is buying the whole new latest console when its released.
Failure Rate...... How many pc's do you hear breaking down? ok yes pc parts do have things go wrong now and again, but thats because pc hardware is 10 times more powerful than any console hardware could ever be... N how many xbox 360s do you hear of breaking down??? STACK LOADS.....
And if something does break in a pc, you can just replace that part, where as a console, you either have to buy a whole new console, or wait for microsoft to fix it just to have it fail again 2 horus later......
Graphical Display... Well, like said, a pc is far more superior graphics compared to any console... its actually been proven that todays spec of pc's, are almost 14years in front of any console spec's...... which is a lot.....
with pc's ability of AA, AF etc etc, there is no contest..
Games.... ok, not everyone would agree here, but i personally find a lot of pc games nicer and better to play.... for instance... (not being biast here as i have owned 4 ps3's and 9 xbox 360's in the past).
From playing COD Black ops on xbox, then jump on a pc and play the same game.. pc feels more fluent and natural....
A console has a stick you move up and down, left and right.... where as pc, you use a mouse, which requires whole hand movement, and more precice co-ordinations...
Just as if you were to aim a gun in real life...
There are just a few reasons why pc is the bomb.....
