1st car

Yes, I picked a totally random car that I've never even set foot in before, or considered any aspects of it :)

No, random in the sense that you've seen German and low mileage and totally forgot that you can do better than an old Polo for the sub 2k mark.

Something like this even: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2277427.htm

Surely we can agree this is a much better car for not a lot more money?

Its going off topic now.

I would consider these cars

Toyota Yaris
VW Lupo
VW Polo
SEAT Arosa
Nissan Micra
Ford Fiesta
Vauxhall Corsa
Renault Clio

All have there pros and cons. Im sure you'll find something

Thanks for all the replies guys, something to work on anyway.

She is not into her cars at all and will drive anything 'comfortable', bear in mind she's been used to driving left hand drive in Germany but has had some recent local experience borrowing my L200!!

So far our thoughts (well mine mostly) older is not preferable, low mileage is not essential if service history of major services is available. The Polo looks to be much more expensive for the same age as others although her mum has one :) . Nissan Micra looks good and getting good reports on reliability of Fiat Panda (04 onwards). £2K looks like it will get an 04 Panda 1.2 Dynamic.

Bad news is that insurance seems to have leapt over Xmas, what was a £600 quote for a Micra has become £830 almost over night.

Andi.

You thought about putting yourself on as a named driver?

Also VWs seem to hold their value more, because they still have a massive following. You take a look on edition38, and people sell even standard vws on there for stupid money, and mugs actually buy them!

Nowt wrong with those Pandas either. If James May has one, it must be good :D:cool:

I'm currently looking for similar cars for me and the girlfriend and I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Yaris 1.0 Colour Collection, a decent one can be had for between 2-2.5k. I've driven 2 of them today and they don't feel as woefully underpowered as I thought they would do and are surprisingly spacious.

Been out today and looked a few cars. £2K looks like it won't be enough  She has decided the Panda is not very nice and doesn't like the Corsa, going to see a Yaris tomorrow but the VW Fox looks interesting.
