Just been upgraded to max :D first 20 min i was downloading at 250k/s now it wont go over 40k/s is this right for day1 my stats are atten 58 snr 6. Router says connected at 2800kbs download upload 448 using a netgear 834 v2 with ethernet connection and latest firmware.

please help

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I doubt your connection can handle much more than that 2MBit speed it currently has. Your Attn is very high and SNR very low. 6dB is the target SNR for a stable connection so I doubt there'll b much left in the line without losing total stability.

Been on max for 2 days and my download still seems capped to 2meg and got these stats on the router constant so am hoping for the full 8 meg

Statistics ----------Downstream-------Upstream
Line Rate ------------8128--------------448
Noise Margin ---------12.6 dB -----------27.0 dB
Line Attenuation ------7.0 dB ------------4.5 dB
Output Power ---------12.0 dBm----------13.8 dBm

I live in a village that has
514 residential premises
69 non-residential premises
on one exchange

im getting about 30k/sec at the moment  but had a nice burst of 550k/sec for a few hours on thursday

line stats are:

448 Kbps Upstream, 6144 Kbps Downstream

DS Line Attenuation 39
US Line Attenuation 44

does that look bad? am i gonna be stuck at a pathetic slow 2mb? :(

Well, you're syncing at 6mbps so BT's only option is to cap you at 2meg forever I'm afraid :(

Or maybe it's just part of the 10 day line training process everyone's talking about at the moment?

LMAO - so cruel.

3 days is the usual Cap time, after which the speed should slowly increase then settle until the 10days are up by which time you should have a nice fast stable connection.

out of interest see how Smiley Man is sync'd at 448 Kbps Upstream, 6144 Kbps
out of the syncrate or datarate which affects the SNR/Attenuation?
i mean would someone sync'd @ 8mbp/448kbp see their SNR drop?
or would it only change when datarates are increased?

i disagree

f2s state that you wil get the fastest your line can support, thats why its called MAX not 8mb cos it might not be 8mb

that better be the case anyway or i wil have to moan at f2s

There's no hopefully about it: your data rate won't be stuck at 2Mbps if you can't get an 8Mbps sync rate :p
Suspect 10 BT days.

gah im not happy with this at all, newsgroups are getting about 100k/sec while normal downloads are going at 400 at the same time!

seems like damned shaping, i was getting 500k/sec on newsgroupd though the other day whats going on?

I used to get 240kbps all the time on 2mb, since activation on wednesday my speed has gone lower and lower, at the minute its only working at 50kbps

+44

Glad I found this thread.

Had my service regraded today and I have got

448 Kbps Upstream, 6244 Kbps Downstream

However I did a Speed test and only managed 1944 kbps downstream.

Thought it was fubar'd.

mine is now showing as 8.3mbps but i'm still downloading at 2mb  anyone know how i check my line stats with a speedtouch 576 router? :o
