Hi,

Getting my missus a Samsung Pixon on contract for part of her xmas present.

However I've never purchased a phone on a contract before so I have a couple of questions.

What do you need to get a contract phone from a shop? ID?

Are you better getting straight to a provider such as 02 or can shops like Phones4u give you better deals/extras?

Is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks

When I used to be a phone salesman (a fair few years ago now), you needed TWO forms of ID (Drivers License, Passport, Recent Utility Bill, Bank Statement that isn't in the red).

phones for you offer really good deals and give away free phones if you ask nice and what i mean by free phone is free pay as you go phone,i went to phones for you and said i wanted a contract phone but i wanted something more than the phone on the contract and they gave me a nice nokia on payg because i took out a contract with them.just say to them you could go to another phone shop but have been advised to come to phones for you because of there good deals and free phones.
they want you and you dont need them so make a point of that and you might be lucky in the run up to xmas.
but make sure you get something free from them !

when i went to o2 for my contract I needed to take a couple of pieces of id, drivers licence and utility bill as proof of address / id. but when i moved to tmob I only needed to hand over my bank card to get a credit check done. It is fairly quick and painless. i dunno the implications since you're getting it for someone else but I'm on the assumption when you say 'missus' you are married and living at the same address and its not just a term of endearment for a gf who may not live with you? Shouldn't think there would be much difference though.

EDIT : Personally I just deal with the networks direct rather than going to a 3rd party shop like phones4u or similar

when i bought a contract phone online i didn't need any form of ID at all...

Well that's a bit obvious isn't it. How are you going to show the server at the other end your utility bill or bank statement?

They also have longer to credit check you before they send out a phone. Buying in store means you get it there and then, and as such the shop has to be certain that you are eligable.
