Howdy :)

I've had the amazing fortune of having two 1TB F1's die on me (CRC errors), so I'm off to grab another drive or two, hopefully I can recover some data before RMA-ing the drives.

I've very impressed with the throughput of the two-platter F3's, but I'm now rather wary of Samsung drives. On the other hand, the seek time on the Caviar Black is very good, and my 36GB raptor is still running flawlessly - but the drive doesn't have that great a sustained transfer..

Which drive would you recommend? It will be used for the usual - gaming, media and what-have-you, nothing special :)

Caviar Black.... no contest!
So you have had 2 new(ish) Samsung drives fail on you yet your still considering getting another:confused:

I repair PC's in my spare time and the pile of faulty Samsung HD's is the largest and thats even with them not being the most popular drives in PC's I repair!
Samsung HD's suck when it comes to reliability which is the most important thing imho.
WD or Seagate are the best HD's imo.

And people still don't believe me in saying Samdung are... dung basically! ;)

Go for the Caviar Black mate. It might be a little more expensive and a tad slower, but remember that the Caviar Black is way more reliable than Samdung drives, and it's now a fairly old drive in comparison to the F3, so the F3 will naturally be a little quicker.

If you've got money to burn and have backed up your data across 2 or more hard drives, go for crap, if not, go for something that's proven itself.
