2,000 migrants tried to enter channel tunnel last night!

Well what the hell is wrong with Germany then?! - only have to cross one bit of water for that...

Nothing is wrong with Germany, however the perception is that life would be better in the UK - I'm not sure why they think this, but it's clearly obvious they do. I'd imagine the two major reasons are the language (English is a more popular world language than German) and the perception that it's more of a free ride than it is in Germany.

It is, of course, perception that shapes peoples actions and not necessarily reality.

However many of them DO pick Germany - infact Germany is the largest destination in the EU for illegal immigrants.

What does this have to do with anything? It's this sort of emotive rubbish that stifles any sensible debate about this sort of issue.

It was the way he came across.

Something needs to be done that's for sure, people saying deport them to where?

99% will dump all documents relating to country of origin, also probably 90% are forged anyway. So what do we do just dump them on the coast of
Africa?

Dump'em in the desert with no shoes that will teach them! :p

Agree with that statement

It's almost as if this is a massively complex and difficult problem to which there is no easy and obvious answer...

Well who cares what they may think, clearly too late and Calais doesn't deserve the nuisance.

The French should as allow us a temporary military base near the tunnels.

Its a wonder they dont all get in boats and wade across the channel and then pull the plug when in our waters and plead to be saved?

The problem we have is exactly what can you do? You can't shoot them and they know this so the Army wouldn't be much of a deterrent.

Since we can't kill them we could use rubber bullet's.

Quote from chief executive of RHA
"He said: "We've got hundreds, thousands of examples of drivers that have been talking to us, telling us of their experiences where they've had 10-20 migrants surrounding their trucks, threatening them, taunting them, using bars and knives to bang on the sides of vehicles to threaten them and make them feel vulnerable. This is definitely escalating and it needs to be taken seriously. "

Maybe shooting them is not a bad idea if that's going, as that is threatening behaviour and intimidation.

If a boat load of Russian soldiers turned up in civilian clothes armed with knifes. Would they not be shot ?
As is that not classed as an invasion.

You know the difference between an incursion across a border by a sovereign states Armed Forces and a bunch of illegal immigrants trying to get across the same border, right?

I just wanted to put all of these quotes in one post, in the hope that some of you can read these back, and possibly understand how despicable and disgusting you all sound.

I have read mine back and see nothing wrong with it but feel free to lump it with some of the far worse suggestions if it makes you happy.

Not sure this is truly meant to be a family forum because if that is the case where do we draw the line? Not allowed to talk about politics or religion at all? Maybe talking about pasty smashing and pooing through letterboxes should be banned?

It will be a sad day if the relative freedom of speech allowed here is removed.

Given that you are so against shooting etc, and that building fences has worked so well this far - what exactly is your suggestion?

I'm saying that talking about gunning people down, electrocuting them, putting people in containers, suffocating them, and running them down with a train isn't fit for a family forum. I'm not going to bother introducing my personal opinion to this post; because what I quoted up there is sickening. And it's not fit for the forum.

Admin, do your jobs.

We're not going to censor people's opinions no matter how disgusting other people find it (within reason, unless it encroaching on personal attacks or actual racism and/or bigotry) - what sort of place would this be if people weren't able to discuss things?

I personally find a lot of the comments here unfair and pretty childish, but at the same time, I also take a pragmatic view that people are also playing devil's advocate, and or are trying to get a rise out of people to further the debate, whether they are right or wrong.

This is what this place is about, discussion. IT doesn't have to be all sweetness and light - sometimes it can be uncomfortable, but unless there is something absolutely racist, or absolutely unacceptable then it will be looked into.

If you are really upset about a post, RTM it and the team will review it.

Given the events in eastern Ukraine I'm not sure the distinction is as clear cut as you might think.

History sets the precedent - those nations that cannot adequately enforce their borders end up ceasing to be independent nations.
