2,000 migrants tried to enter channel tunnel last night!

No idea why this isn't being dealt with by a heavy hand. It's not as if they are even asylum seekers so there isn't much of a bleeding heart angle. They're just young male economic illegal migrants with nothing to lose.

Not sure what everyone's worried about, if they make it to the UK this van awaits them:

They've got no chance.

If we were Russia, I'm sure a load of Russian shock troops would have gone to the Calais area 'on holiday' to give the migrants a nice warm welcome!

If we were Russia, then special forces would roll in a few cannisters of Fentanyl and the illegals who survived would wake up back in Africa with a bloody banging headache and no recollection of what had just happened.

If its food then yes it has to be destroyed due to contamination.

+1 for brick it up. ;)

They say they had 200 security staff that's 10-1. Police where called so they say but can someone enlighten me as to why no arrests?

You still haven't substantiated what you said. I'm pretty sure we're not going to get there, but hey-ho.

You are reading the whole thread right.

What happens to the migrants that make it here? e.g. within the confines of the channel tunnel terminal?

Yeah I wondered that too - the ones who make it undetected probably just go and get a 50p/hour job in east London. The ones who get arrested probably get a free NHS check-up, a £1m council house and enough benefits to buy a return air fare to Lagos.

Does the French constitution allow for deployment of troops to assist in domestic law and order, though?

That said it seems the only way to get some enforcement in the area though guess it would have to be via non-lethal means such as water cannon or tear gas to try and disperse them.

In the longer term, both our government and the EU need to identify why Britain in particular is such a magnet to these people and put a stop to it. While I have some sympathy for genuine asylum seekers, if they were fleeing their home country for fear of peril or death, then they should stop in the first safe haven they come to.

Perhaps there is more going on behind the scenes but the general impression I get is of the wringing of hands from our Tory government who seem more than happy to get tough with their own population when it comes to "austerity", welfare and public sector pay but won't get tough with economic migration.

you all seem to be missing the fact that Most migrants who make it to the UK make it here on the back of trucks, and trucks are also able to go on the ferries.
So all these cries of bricking the tunnel up would solve absolutely bugger all.
Eurotunnel also operate more stringent checks now than the ferry company(ies) do.

As the news artciles have stated though the camps that they live in are making these people increasingly desperate and willing to take bigger risks.

There is no deterrant for them either, if they are caught trying to sneak in, they get a slap on the wrist and sent back out to try again. I read an article a couple of weeks ago and a young chap who had spent £3k getting to Calais was quoted as saying "I will get into the UK or I will die" with that mentality and the lack of deterrant it is obvious this problem isn't going to go away.

Start shooting people and the problem will probably go away, but human rights laws probably prevent us from trying that avenue ;)

OT but it is believed that Aliens (1986) is set in the year 2179 ... surely by then their weapons would be more sophisticated than a machine gun. By the end of this century laser guns will possibly be commonplace.

Not so sure, one of the issues with lasers is the the generator required and the size of the battery bank needed to pulse. Great for ships, sucks for any other platform at moment.

Same for petrol, nothing else quite matches the energy output per kg, so I think we will be using kinetic rounds for a while yet.

IIRC those sentry guns were not on the first DVD release, I remember having to buy another edit to see them. Best bit IMO.

On topic:
you can tell the French are not taking this seriously, by using chain link fences as a security perimeter  They are for stopping balls leaving the school grounds, not for keeping out the next generation of terrorists.

They have a do or die mentality so nothing to lose.:(

Just ship'em off on rice and water in a decommissioned oil tanker for a few weeks and dump them in Somalia.

Jobs a good`en! :p

Type in google "Population of UK" and see how much it's increased over the last 8 years, over 5 million people in growth, compared to 1960 to 2005 it was only 7.5 million people in growth.

If 5 million people in 8 years, god only knows what it will be like in the next 10 years.

HUGE problem, this country is truly and utterly ******

Time to win the lottery I think and gtfo, if only!

Just for a lol, we should introduce compulsory Army conscription for all the middle eastern refugees coming to the UK.

Then send them back home to fight for their own damn country,
instead of running away and expecting NATO to clear up the mess that islam always creates.

:)
