It's a massive issue really isnt it. No country or government wants to touch it.

On one hand the large amount of these immigrants offer us nothing, our country (and many others) are barely keeping heads above water, on the other is the human element a lot are fleeing conflict, have no where to go and have little to no prospects.

The answer isn't England, France or any one country accepting (or denying) boat loads of Immigrants. There needs to be something done on a European/International scale, each country taking equal shares, no one country can manage it by themselves. Will that happen? Doubtful.

We have a moral obligation to help genuine asylum seekers from countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

The problem is identifying the genuine applications.

Are you actually a fanatical Christian or do you just use parts of the Bible to justify your views in certain areas and then ignore the rest?

I'd say both. He's clearly off the reservation on just about every topic on these forums. But we love him because he makes us feel superior. :D

Only the non-Muslims imo, like the Yazidis, Christians, Zoroastrians etc. Remember that it was Muslims - Shia and Sunni who were fighting against British troops trying to make these places stable states. So guess what? You reap what you sow.

The EU agreed to a quota system for these refugees but the UK government kicked up a stink about it. In the end, the quota system collapsed because the UK refused to take its fair share.

And then the UK wonders why the rest of the EU isn't quick to help us out with the Calais situation.

If every country "takes their fair share" then all means is stores go back home that your accepted here and more and more come till even the fair share is too much.

Then you're back here except significantly worse off.

What then?

Problem is that I don't believe our EU 'partners' wouldn't actually stick to any agreement made. You've read the reports - they're giving illegal immigrants free train travel so long as they say they're going to the UK.

Exactly, it's a slippery slope. Yes i'm sure the UK could burden all the immigrants in the Calais camp currently, but all that would do is set a precedent for the million other economic migrants that would head this way. For those who are saying we should "welcome them all with open arms". At what point do we say enough is enough? When there's not enough housing... When the crime rate goes through the roof... When schools are overwhelmed... When the NHS can no longer cope...

As we can clearly see from the news (regardless of which news outlet), the majority that seem to want to get into the UK are men, likely from the ages of 18-50. Very little numbers in terms of women or families.

Sounds more like tit for tat to me.

The UK already takes in huge numbers of EU migrants, so just because we've put our hands up this time to say "woah, we're not opting in to this quota system". The rest of the EU countries decide to play unfairly and happily pass economic migrants along. There's a reason the French police won't bother arresting any of them, because it means they'd have to be processed and then they would be the responsibility of France. This way they're just pretending they don't exist.

Getting to the UK is dangerous and expensive. It's pretty easy to understand why it's mostly younger men who make it to Calais.

Did you ignore the figures of how many the French have arrested? This idea that the EU are ganging up on us isn't really reflected in reality.

Even God wiped the path for the Jews in the Old Testament! He looked after his 'own'.

Has the Calais Wall gone up?

See, this is stupidest part of this whole debacle, Cameron really is stupid enough to think that putting up a "fence" is going to stop them.

This is Spain's fence
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melilla_border_fence

€33 million worth of razor wire

TRIPLE 6 metre fences

spotlights, sensors and 24/7 policing.

Impregnable yeh?
