I am currently in a serious (ok maybe im exaggerating a bit) dilema. I bought an E5400 cpu for my Abit IP35-E mobo but found out it wasn't compatible. I then bought a E6300 2.8GHz version thinking it would be compatible But it turns out that there are 3 variants of the E6300 (http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ParentRadio=All&ProcFam=0&SearchKey=e6300) and my mobo doesnt work with the 2.8GHz one .

Anyways im planning to sell one of the cpus and buy a new mobo but im not sure which one to sell. I plan to overclock to ~3.6GHz so i want to keep the better overclocker. The E5400 has a 800MHz fsb and the E6300 is 1066MHz. Which one should i keep?:D

Easy answer to that one, the E6300 would be the better to keep, as it has a higher starting point on the FSB so in theroy should clock abit higher and easier with the right motherboard.

My E6300 is running at 3.8, (10x380) in a matx build. It's superb. Plus it has VT which the other chips don't. (budget chips)

I tried the E7500, and it din't clock as good as the E6300

E6300 For the win.

In theroy that is true, but realistcly its false, my old E5200 topped out at 4.1ghz due to a fsb wall it would not boot into windows any higher then 330 fsb.

Some are lucky and don't seem to have a fsb wall, but most do.

I just made exactly the same mistake. I bought an E6300 for my Abit IP35-E having first checked compatibility. Like you I didn't realise there were multiple E6300 versions.

I don't won't to change my motherboard. Anyone recommend another CPU (currently have a E2180)?

it can work with an E5200 if you get the beta bios, but thats the only recent cpu it works with. I can post the link if you want, its not on the abit website. I got it on the abit care section on another site, which is blocked
