Hey guys,

I’m in the market fir a nice 2 GB combo – I’ve had a look around and read of few of the threads, but I’m still no better off :(

I’ve got a Opty 146 atm, running at 2.6 GHz with some cheap Crucial holding it up, but now I’ve got some spare cash and I want some quality, and 2 GB’s worth :D

I’m aiming for around the £160 mark. I want to be able to do a little overclocking, so I had either G.Skill or OCZ lined up? But I’m in real need of some sound guidance, so here I am?

Guide me ;)

Cheers,

SW.

Either....

G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit - £146.82
G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit - £152.69

... imo of course. :)
I think the G.Skill stuff is by far the best value for money in terms of quality/performance?

The ZX seems to have the edge atm ;)

Thanks for the guidence!

Nope, that's the Corsair 3500LL Pro's - for £18 more, you get probably the best 2GB kit out there at the moment (so long as it continue's to clock like it has been doing - and even if it doesn't it's still FAR superior to those G.Skills as it is rated at 219Mhz 2-3-2-6).
Thanks smids - I've sort of overlooked Corsair

I'm just doing some research now. It's looking good so far.

Knowing my luck though, I'd end up with a poor pair. That said they'd probably still clock better than the G.Skill, right :D

Hey guys,

Only just got my Corsair XMS3500LL TwinX today :D

Mine.

OcUK's.

I'm worried because they don't look like they do in the OcUK picture

Are they right? Have they just changed the heatsink

As long as the hologram sticker says 3500LL and the timings are correct, you should be ok. Usually the silver headspreaders are for labelled as PT (Platinum). The pic on the site is probably just the wrong one. ;)
Phew :p

I just had a good look at them, and the sticker says, 'CMX1024-3500LL' on each stick :D

438 MHz 2.3.2.6 - which I presume are the timings?

Time to try them out me thinks :)

Okay guys - they're fitted and I've tidied up my case cabling quite a bit :)

Hence the 15 hour down time I've just had...

My old Crucial timings seem to have carried over, so there’s my starting point.

I'm going to run them in a bit first, do 12 hours or so, on Prime maybe?

One other thing - I got a bit carried away during their installation, a removed one of the 'Warranty Void If Removed Labels' - it was peeling at the sides, so I just pulled it off - I didn't even read what it said till after? I've managed to stick back on, and it looks okay, I was just wondering though, would Cosair ever be that fussy if I needed a RMA and start looking at it under a microscope or anything :(

Moving on -

So where do I start, what do I change first? I'm currently running my Opty at 2.6GHz on a 3x divider I think? So I'll presumably need to take that into consideration? Although, I could probably push it a bit further possibly, 2.7GHz is feasible? I am still on air though...

Cheers ;)

Any chance of some help then guys, they're well and truly settled now?

10 hours of Prime with no errors, a fair old bit of gaming and my machine has been on for nearly two and a half days with them installed?

Can someone suggest some individual timing’s for these sticks? And also any benchmark software I could use to compare my memory performance? Before and after etc?

Thanks,

SW.

You should be able to run them up to at least 217MHz at 2-3-2-6 maybe 2-3-2-5.
Well I think I'm nearly there :D

They've only got the default voltage going through them atm though? 2.6v I think? My old Crucial's needed 2.8v

I think they're on a 2/1.66 divider, so my Opty can still run at 2.6GHz.

Is there anything I've missed?

Set them to 2-3-2-6 1T as you are below stock...
Are those settings going from CAS#Latency to Cycle Time (Tras) in desending order?

The pictured settings were the automatic ones my motherboard picked up

Thanks for the help guys ;)

And the volts going through them is okay yeah?

Cheers,

SW.

Looking good so far?

I had to up the volts to 2.7 because my games were crashing

No big deal though?

What about those other two values and the 1T one? I think it was set to 3T in the BIOS?

Cheers,

SW.

Just got the latest version of CPU-Z?

How do I change the Command Rate Value then - what will it be in the BIOS?

Also what about the TRC and the IDLE TIMER values could they be changed at all?

Cheers,

SW.
