Hi,

I have a 8600 GT 256MB on XP and Crysis is struggling a little.

Would I get better performance by buying a 8800 GTS/X card, or should I add another 8600 GT to my M2N-SLI motherboard?

Thanks for any suggestions

Floob.

Theres very little you can do, a GTS does the game at Medium/High settings, but all cards and configurations struggle with Highest everything.

Whats your budget and what res do you game at?

A used 320Mb GTS can be had for about £90

A G92 GT is about £150, a G92 GTS about £200 and a GTX about £240

I game at 1280x768 and budget is prob £250.

Very tempted with a G92 GTS. I play Crysis, C&C3 and World in Conflict.
Hopefully, these will all improve from my 8600GT.

As a side question, are all manufacturers much of a muchness? i.e Inno3D, PNY, XFX etc...

There all made in the same fasctory, only difference really is warranty and bundle.

Id just get the cheapest :)

For that res an 8800GT will be great :)

Don't buy the gigabyte one, it only has 256mb ram. You want a 512mb 8800GT if you go for a GT. The GT cards are the best value at the moment.

How do I find a decent 8800 GT based on the G92? I guess I want that and not G80?

Thanks for all your replies so far.

If your budget is £250, wouldn't it be better to get an 3870X2? Will be faster than a GTX and isn't much more than £250 :)

because at resolutions he will be playing at, its rather overkill, and a GT is atleast £100 cheaper. And besides, he could always wait a while, and get a second GT and own the X2's ass!

/GT owner fanboy moment :)

GTS are usually a lot cooler than a GT aswell, because it has dual slot cooling. I find single slot coolers just fill the case with hot air, and has to be removed by the exhaust fan instead of just being blown out the back like a Dual Slot cooler does.
